Navigate to the folder where the downloaded fonts are located. If left as default, the downloaded file will be saved to the folder Downloads. If the downloaded file is compressed (usually ending with .zip), double-click it to unzip.

• Downloaded fonts usually have a .otf or .ttf extension.

Double-click the font file. This will open a dialog window that shows a font preview.

Open InDesign. It is located in the Applications folder. The installed font will now appear in the Font menu on the Character tab.

Method 3 of 3: Download new fonts on personal computers

   Download fonts to your computer. Many websites have many free fonts that you can download for your own use. Use your favorite search engine to find such sites and browse the font collection. When you find the font you need, click the button Download to save it to your computer.
   • InDesign supports the following font types: OpenType, TrueType, Type 1, Multiple Master, and Composite. If the font you are downloading requires a format selection prior to downloading, select one of those formats.
   • If your InDesign project is commercial (such as ads, premium publications, website designed for profit, social media ads), you will usually need to purchase the copyright. from the author of the font.
   • Some popular font download sites are https://www.dafont.com, https://www.1001freefonts.com, and https://www.myfonts.com.

• Various types of fonts are available. Serif fonts and sans serif fonts are the most common. Some of the most popular legged fonts include Times New Roman and Garamond. A few popular sans serif fonts are Arial and Helvetica. Fonts can also be used for decoration, meaning they look more colorful than standard serif or legless fonts. Some of the decorative fonts are Papyrus and Playbill.
• Downloading files from the Internet could put your computer at risk of infection with viruses or malware. Protect your computer by making sure that your antivirus software is updated to the latest version before downloading any font files.
• Download fonts only from reliable sources.
