Changing app icons can help personalize and improve the look and feel of your home or desktop screen, especially if you're not satisfied with the original icon's color and shape. App icons on Android and iOS devices can be changed using third-party apps, while Windows and Mac OS X need to be adjusted via the Properties menu.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: On Android

1. 

   Launch Google Play Store on your Android device. Google Play Store offers a variety of apps to help you change and customize existing app icons.

   Tap "Search", then enter a keyword to find an app that allows changing app icons. Some keywords that you can use are "icon changer" and "customize app icons".

3. 

   Tap on any app in the search results to learn more about the feature. Some Android apps that can change their original app icons are Juyeong's Icon Changer, CocoPPA from United, Inc. and Icon Changer developed by Alvina Gomes.

   Select the action to "Install" or "Buy" the app.

5. 

   Follow the on-screen instructions to purchase and install icon-changing apps. Once done, the option will show up in Android's app drawer.

   Launch the installed app and follow the on-screen instructions to customize and change the look of the icon. In most cases, you can choose a new icon, icon theme or use a photo from your personal gallery to replace an existing app icon. advertisement

Method 2 of 4: On iOS

1. 

   Launch the App Store on the iOS device. The App Store offers a variety of apps with the ability to change and customize app icons.

2. 

   Click on "Search" and enter a keyword to find options that allow you to change app icons. Some keywords that you can use are "icon changer" and "customize app icons".

3. 

   Tap on any app in the search results to learn more about the feature. Some iOS apps that can change original app icons are Happio Workshop's App Icons +, CocoPPa from United, Inc. and App Icons developed by Apalon Apps.

   Select the action to "Install" or "Buy" the app.

5. 

   Enter your Apple ID and password and click “OK.”

6. 

   Follow the instructions on the screen to install the icon change app. Once done, the icon will appear in the app drawer on your iOS device.

   Launch the installed app and follow the on-screen instructions to change the look of the icon. In most cases, you can choose a new icon, icon theme or use a photo from your personal gallery to replace an existing app icon. advertisement

Method 3 of 4: On a Windows PC

1. 

   Right-click the icon of the application you want to change on your Windows PC. If you are on a Windows tablet or mobile device, press and hold on the icon.

2. 

   Select “Properties”, then click the “Shortcut” tab in the Properties window.

   Click “Change Icon”(Change icon). A list of all available Windows icons will appear on the desktop.

   Select the new symbol you want to use from the list available. Or you can click “Browse” to choose another icon from your personal collection.
   • Icons from the personal collection must have the .ico extension to use them. You can access an online file conversion service like Convertico.com or ICOConverter.com to convert your pictures into .ico format.

   Click “OK” then select “OK” again to confirm the change. The application icon will be changed to an image of your choice. advertisement

Method 4 of 4: On Mac OS X

1. 

   Confirm that the new image or the icon you plan to use instead has the .icns format. The .icns format works best on OS X because the file automatically converts the images and icons to the standard size. For example, to use a family picture as an app icon, the photo only needs to be converted to the file type .icns is done, no resizing required.
   • Use an online file conversion service like CloudConvert.com or iConvertIcons.com to convert new photos or app icons into .icns format.

   Open the Applications folder and go to the application you want to change.

3. 

   Right click on the application icon and select “Get Info" (Get information). The information panel of the selected application will appear on the screen.

4. 

   Go to the new app icon you plan to use instead.

5. 

   Right-click on the new application icon and choose “Copy" (Copy).

6. 

   Click the back button to return to the "Get Info" window and then click directly on the original application icon showing in the upper left corner. The initial icon will be highlighted.

7. 

   Press "Command" + "V" to paste the new symbol into the existing one. You may need to enter the administrator password first before the original icon will be replaced.

8. 

   Open your Applications folder and select “Utilities" (Utilities).

9. 

   Open "Terminal" and type "killall Dock" in the command line. The icons in the Dock bar will be refreshed.

10. 

    Press "Enter". The original app icon will be replaced with a new one. advertisement
