Do you need to use MS Paint to invert colors in an image? Since MS Paint 6.1 (Windows 7), Microsoft has changed the way that users have to reverse colors. It's still easy to do, but it's not always obvious. For a quick color inversion, press a key combination Ctrl + Shift + I. Read on to see how to inverse colors on both old and new versions of the show!

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On Windows 7 and later

   Be aware that the Invert Colors tool has changed. Do not look for the Invert Colors tool in the toolbar at the top as in Windows Vista or earlier. As of MS Paint 6.1, we can only invert the colors by selecting and right clicking on the image. This means that if you use Windows 7, 8 or 10, then the new version of Paint will be pre-installed. It might be confusing after years of being used to using the top toolbar for color adjustments - but don't worry! Although the new process is different, it will still be very simple.
   • The Invert Colors tool is quite useful if you just want to invert the colors available in an icon or image and don't need to completely replace the colors.

   Choose an image. If you want to invert colors in the entire image, you need to select the entire image. You can select an image with the Select tool, or click "Select all" from within Select Options.
   • If you only want to invert colors in part of an image: just select the part of the image you want to manipulate.

   Image color inversion. First, right-click on the photo. Then, scroll down to the “Invert color” option at the bottom of the drop-down menu. Click "Invert color". The part of the image you choose will be immediately inverted.

Method 2 of 2: On Windows Vista and earlier

   Open the image in MS Paint. You can do this either inside or outside Paint.
   • In Paint: Open MS Paint by clicking the icon on the Desktop or searching in Programs. Once Paint opens, click "File" then "Open". Find and select the picture you want to invert. Then, press ↵ Enter Or click "Open."
   • Outside Paint: Find the file you want to inverse. Right-click the file and choose "Open with"> MS Paint. The file will open in MS Paint.

   Click on "Image" at the top then select "Invert colors.""The colors will immediately be inverted. The colors in the inverse image are those that exactly complement the color in the original. Yellow balls will be blue (not purple - traditional complementary colors) in reverse version.
   • For a quick color inversion, just tap Ctrl + I. Remember: this only applies to Windows Vista and earlier!

   Save photo. Click "File," select "Save as ...". Choose an easy-to-remember name with the file type (if needed). Be sure to save the file somewhere you can find it again. Finally, click "Save" to confirm. advertisement

Advice

• You can use the tool Select, or free-form select to select a specific area you want to inverse on the image.
• Instead of opening the image in Paint, you can find the file in "My Document" or somewhere saved, then right-click and choose "open with" ... "Paint".
• Quickly open a file by pressing Ctrl + O on the keyboard.
• "BMP," PNG "," JPG ", and" GIF "are popular formats. In most cases PNG will produce the smallest file size with no loss of quality. • The same effect is still possible on many other programs. The process may not be the same, but the effect is the same.
• If you use the tool free-form select instead of select Usually, you need to click and drag the selection a little bit, then put it back in the original position to inverse. Otherwise, you'll inverse a rectangle instead of the shape you drew.

Warning

• If you are having trouble finding "MS Paint" on your computer, (or without it) then chances are you are using a non-windows computer / laptop. However, there are many other similar graphics software (free and paid) that are even better. You can ask people, or search the internet.
• On Windows 7, you need to right-click on the selected image to invert the colors.
• If you click "Save" instead of "Save as ..." then you will overwrite the old image. Don't Do this if you want to keep the original image parallel to the edited image.
• If you hold down CTRL + I (or CTRL + SHIFT + I) the colors will flash rapidly. Be careful: you might get a headache!
