This wikiHow page will show you how to view your Hotmail account's inbox. The traditional Hotmail interface has been integrated with Microsoft Outlook, so opening a Hotmail account is like opening an Outlook account. You can use Microsoft Outlook to access your account on both desktop and mobile.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On desktop

1. 

   Open the Hotmail website. Go to https://www.hotmail.com/ in the web browser on your computer. Since Hotmail is already integrated with Microsoft Outlook, you will be redirected to the Microsoft Outlook login page.
   • If this opens your Outlook inbox, you've successfully signed in to your account.
   • If your inbox opens someone else's account, sign out by clicking your profile icon in the upper-right corner of the screen, then tapping the item. Sign out ('Log out') in the drop-down menu.

   Click Sign in (Log in). This button is in the center of the page.

3. 

   Enter your Hotmail email address. In the "Email, phone or Skype" text box, enter the email address you use for your Hotmail account.
   • If you haven't signed in to your Hotmail account after more than 270 days (or within 10 days of creating the account), it will be deleted and you will need to create a new account.

   Enter password. Enter your account password in the "Password" text box.

Method 2 of 2: On mobile devices

1. 

   Open Outlook. Click the Outlook app icon with a white "O" on a dark blue background.
   • If Outlook opens your inbox, you've successfully signed in to your account.
   • If Outlook opens an account that isn't yours, tap the icon ☰ in the top left corner of the screen, then click the gear icon under the menu item, enter the email address of your current account, tap 'Delete Account '(Delete account) and tap Delete (Delete) when prompted to remove the account from the Outlook app.

   Press Get Started (Begin). This button is in the center of the screen.
   • If Outlook opens a text field asking for your email address, skip this step.

3.

Advice

• As of October 2018, Hotmail and Outlook are one and the same. You can still sign in to your account using the "@ hotmail.com" email address, but doing so will open the Outlook interface instead of the old Hotmail interface.

Warning

• If a Hotmail account has been inactive for a long time resulting in its deletion, you cannot recover it.
