E-mail is one of the most popular communication tools in the digital age. Thanks to e-mail, the exchange between people becomes more convenient and professional; however, to read an email, you must first open it, no matter what kind of email it is. The most important thing is that you must have an email provider account. If you do not have an email account, you can refer to more information on how to create an email in the related articles.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Open Email on Computer
Visit the email provider's home page.
Sign in to your email account.
Click on "Inbox". A list of available emails will be displayed on the screen. Usually, the sender name and the subject of the email will be displayed so that you can know what the sender and the email is about.
Click on one of the emails. Email can be opened in one corner or the whole screen. If the email is displayed on the whole screen, you can either click the "back" button or the arrow back to the left to go back to the previous screen where the email list display (also called is "inbox"), so you can open other emails.- Below the "Inbox" button will often show other folders. You can click on the "Sent Mail" folder, to open sent email messages. The "Draft" folder will contain emails that have been drafted, but not yet sent. Depending on the provider, different folders may be displayed in an email.
Method 2 of 4: Using iOS
Open the "Setting" section and click on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" (Mail, Contacts, Calendar).
Select "Add Account". Multiple mail options will show up like "iCloud", "Exchange", "Google", "Yahoo", "AOL" and "Outlook". If you have an email account in one of these options, click on that email account. If not, click the "Other" button and then select "Add Account".
Enter your name.Your name will be displayed on every email sent, so if you are using this account for work purposes, it is better to give it a professional name and be consistent with familiarity to the recipient.
Enter your email address. Should enter the address you want to register on your phone.
Enter your password. The password must match the email you entered.
Enter a description. With this description you can see which email you are accessing. For example, you could name it "work" if it's a work account or "gmail" if it's your personal Gmail account.
Click "Next" in the upper right corner of the iOS device. The device will then verify the account.
Press the Home button to return to the main page. Tap on the Mail app. The new account will be listed according to the description you chose.

Method 3 of 4: Use Android to Open a Non-Gmail Email Account
Open your email app (or Mail) and select "Set up a New Account".
Enter the email address you want to access and its password. Click "Next". The phone will verify your email settings. If your email is of a popular type like Yahoo or a Hotmail account, then the process of verifying your email settings should be relatively quick.
- If your phone cannot find your account settings, it gives you some advanced options.First, select one of the following accounts after IMAP, POP3, or Exchange. Exchange is commonly used for business accounts while IMAP and POP3 are commonly used for joint accounts. Email providers often suggest using IMAP, but you should consult your email provider to find out the advantages of each.
- After selecting the account type, enter "Incoming server settings" and then continue to enter "Outgoing server settings". However, you should also consult with your email provider to understand the specific configuration settings.
Choose options for the account. A list of options will be displayed, you can select or deselect any option. Then, click "Next".
- Check "Send email from this account by default" to make this email account the default email address. Any email sent will use this address.
- Check the box "Notify me when email arrives" if you want every email sent to be notified. Note, this function can drain the phone battery and data because the phone will have to periodically check for any new emails. You can also click on the top bar on these options to change how often your phone checks for new email.
- Check "Sync email form this account" to automatically sync your email. With this, you can back up data.
- Check "Automatically download attachments when connected to WiFi" to download attachments automatically when you open an email with file attachments. This function is usually very useful, only unless you are on a very slow WiFi connection or are opening sensitive documents on a public and insecure network.
Enter a descriptive name for the account. You can enter anything as long as you like, like "Yahoo Email." If you have multiple email accounts, enter a different descriptive name, that will make it easier to recognize.
Enter your name. Your name will appear on every email you send, if this is a business email then name it professionally. Click "Next" and the email account will be added to your phone.
Click on your new account in the Mail app. Then, touch to open the email you want to read. To return to the list of emails, click the back arrow at the bottom. advertisement
Method 4 of 4: Use Android to Open Gmail
Open "Settings" and scroll down to the "Accounts" section. Click “Add Account”.
- Since Android is a product of Google, it will only use the Gmail app, not Email.
Click "Google". Then click "Existing".
Enter Email and Password. Click "OK" to agree to the terms of service and privacy policy. As such, you will be logged into your account.
- You may be asked to join Google+ or GooglePlay. Simply check or deselect the options you want to participate in.
