In this article, wikiHow will guide you through opening firewall ports on your router or firewall on a Windows computer. By default, the main ports in the firewall are closed to prevent intrusion, opening ports can help you solve the connection problems between the device and the router, between the program and the device, however also increases the risk of network and computer attacks.

Method 1 of 3: Open the firewall port on the router

   Unlock the Firewall menu. Click on the padlock icon, enter the Mac administrator password and click Unlock (Unlock).

   Click Firewall Options (Firewall option). It's on the right side of the Firewall page.

   Click the button +. You will see your option below the window, in the center of the page.

   Choose an application that allows you to bypass the firewall. Just click on the application to select it.

    Click Add (More). This button is near the bottom of the window. This will add the program to the firewall exceptions list.

    Don't forget to check the "Allow incoming connections" dialog box displayed next to the application name. If you don't see this dialog to the right of the application name, hold down the key Control and click on the name of the application, then tick Allow incoming connections.

• As a general rule, most applications use TCP ports. Time-sensitive programs such as video games may use UDP or TCP ports.
