Today WikiHow teaches you how to view the amount of memory remaining on your computer or mobile device. This process is a little different from checking the amount of temporary memory, often referred to as your computer's RAM.

Method 1 of 4: On Windows

Advice

• Your device's available hard drive will always accommodate less than advertised. This is because part of the drive is used to store the operating system and required files of the device.
• If you are trying to clean up computer memory, note that you cannot change the amount of space left on the drive by just dragging and dropping files to the recycle bin; You have to empty the trash to create more space.

Warning

• If the hard drive is full, you'll need to delete programs and files before you can add more files to the drive.
• Your device will always run slower than its optimum speed if the hard drive is more than half full.
