Forgot your passcode or pattern to access your HTC smartphone? Android has a built-in way to bypass the lock screen if you have the correct Google account. If that fails, the only option is to reboot the device back to factory settings. In other cases, you can access your phone after a few minutes.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Sign in with Google account

1. 

   Try the PIN or pattern lock five times. To get past the lock screen, you must enter the password five times. The phone will be locked again and will give you the option to sign in with the alternative.

   Tap on "Forgot Password" or "Forgot Pattern". The Google account login screen will appear, allowing you to log in by providing the Google account information associated with your phone.

   Enter your Google account information. Enter your Google account name and password. This should be the account you used when the phone was first set up. If you can't remember your Google password, you can recover it by trying to sign in to the Google site using a computer.
   • Make sure you are connected to a mobile network or WiFi. To log in in this way, your device must be connected to the internet. If airplane mode is on, press and hold the power button until the power menu appears. Click the airplane icon to turn off airplane mode.

   Set a new password. After successful login, set a new screen lock password so that you can continue to lock and access your device safely. Tap the Settings or Settings app, and choose to lock your phone with a PIN, pattern, or password. advertisement

Method 2 of 2: Reboot the phone

1. 

   Power off the phone. To go to the Recovery menu, you will need to restart the phone that is powered off. Press and hold the power button until the power menu appears. Click the Power icon to power off the phone. Rebooting the phone will erase all the data inside, so this is seen as a last-ditch effort.
   • If the phone is "standing", you can turn off the power by removing the battery from the back.

   Open the Recovery menu. Press and hold the volume down button, then press and hold the power button. Hold both buttons for 30 seconds. After the Android image appears, you can release the keys.

   Proceed to the Factory Reset step. Use the volume down button to navigate the menu. Select “Factory Reset”, then, press the power button to continue. The factory reset will take a few minutes.
   • When Factory Reset is selected, the data in the machine will be erased.

   Login and reset phone. After the factory settings are reset, you will be asked to reset your phone as it was when you first purchased it.If you sign in to the Google account linked to your phone and you have backup enabled before, your old settings will be restored.
   • You can re-download any app purchased through the Play Store as long as you use the same account.
   • All contacts stored in the Google Contacts contacts are automatically synced with your account.

• This is only the last resort if you cannot access your phone and have no way to remember the password, as you will have to start over.
