The gift card is considered a great gift for those who are confused about shopping. Sometimes, however, cash is preferred over gift cards. Fortunately, there are many ways you can turn your gift card into cash. You can sell gift cards, exchange them for cash, or use gift cards to earn points and save you a lot of money.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Selling gift cards
Selling gift cards for a website. A lot of websites online will redeem gift cards and refund you cash. Some websites offer prepaid postage for you to mail your gift card to. If you have a gift card code, some websites won't hesitate to buy it back from you. Make sure you check out any website reviews before deciding to sell your tag.
- Normally, you will not receive the full amount corresponding to the value of the gift card.
- A few websites where you can sell gift cards are Cardpool, Raise, CardCash and Giftcard Zen.
Use the app to sell gift cards. A few companies also own a mobile app, and this is where you can sell your gift cards. Just download the app, send your card and choose your preferred form of payment — via PayPal or sign a check. Normally, the company will charge a commission of 15% of the value of the gift card.- You can also download Raise's app.
List a gift card on an e-commerce website. If you don't want to sell your gift card to a particular website, you can also choose to list the gift card on another website — like eBay or Craigslist. You can sell your gift card for the same price as its actual value, but it is usually easier to sell it if the price is slightly lower than its actual value. Remember that a website, like eBay, can eat a percentage of the commission on the sale.- You should also include shipping costs if you're going to send a gift card to someone.

Selling gift cards to a friend. There is a possibility that one of your friends will want to buy this gift card from you. This is considered the easiest and safest way to sell gift cards. Method 2 of 3: Exchange gift cards
Use a Coinstar Exchange machine. Coinstar Exchange machines are usually located in front of many large grocery stores. Just swipe the gift card and you will receive an offer. This offer will typically range from 60% to 85% of the gift card balance. You can choose to accept or decline this amount. If you accept the offer, you will receive a voucher and exchange it for cash at the cash register.
- The Coinstar Exchange is completely different from the regular Coinstar machine which is only used to exchange coins for paper money.
Redeem gift cards for cash at a Gift Card Exchange kiosk. Gift Card Exchange machines are usually bright yellow in color and placed in grocery stores. Enter the card information in the machine and then choose to accept or decline the offer that the machine offers you. If you accept the offer, you can choose between a cash voucher or a Visa gift card.
- You can go online to find out where the nearest Gift Card Exchange machine is.
Redeem the gift card for another store. If you don't like the store where you use the gift card directly, you can exchange it for the gift card at the store you like. You can do this online or at certain card exchangers. For example, you can use a website like CardCash to exchange gift cards. Or, you can go to a store, like Target, and then exchange your card for a Target gift card at an exchange machine located in the store.
- This won't be exactly the same as receiving cash, however if you need to buy something from an updated store, the gift card can essentially be used as cash as well.
Method 3 of 3: Benefit from gift cards in different ways
Buy groceries with gift cards. Even if you do not receive cash, you can still use the redemption program to make purchases. For example, you can use a Visa gift card or gift card at a grocery store like Kroger to buy groceries or other necessities. If the grocery store has a redemption program, you will earn points and use these points to purchase later.
Use your gift card to earn gas points. Some gas stations and gas stations have redemption points. Use a gift card when buying gas. You can then use these points to buy gas later.
Use gift cards at drugstores to earn bonus points. First, you will need to complete the free registration process for the redemption program at your local pharmacy / pharmacy. Then, use the gift card at that pharmacy or the Visa gift card to make the purchase. For each purchase, you will earn points. These points can be redeemed for coupons or discount codes.
Giving back the gift card as a gift. If you have an unused gift card that you don't want to use, give it to a friend who will treasure the card.
