In this article, wikiHow shows you how to change the Virtual Private Network settings on a Mac, Windows or on iPhone and Android smartphones. To configure VPN settings, you must first connect to the VPN. Most VPNs are not provided for free, you need to register and pay before connecting.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: On Windows

  1. Open Start

    • Connection name (Connection name) - The name of the VPN on the computer.
    • Server name or address (Server name or address) - Change the VPN server address.
    • VPN type (VPN type) - Change the connection type.
    • Type of sign-in info (Login info type) - Select a new login information type (eg Password (Password))
    • User name (optional) (Username (optional)) - If necessary, change the username to log in to the VPN.
    • Password (optional) (Password (optional)) - If necessary, change the VPN login password.

Method 2 of 4: On a Mac

  1. Open the Apple menu

  2. Click System Preferences… (Customize system). The option is at the top of the Apple menu.
  3. Click Network (Network). This option has a purple globe icon in the middle of the System Preferences page.
  4. Select VPN. Click on the VPN name in the leftmost column in the network window. You should see the VPN settings appear on the right side of the screen.
    • If this is your first time setting up a VPN, click the mark in the lower left corner of the network connection window and select VPN in the "Interface" menu, then enter the VPN information.
  5. Configure VPN. You can change the following settings:

  7. Configure authentication settings. You can change the options below:
    • User Authentication (Authenticate users) - Check the box to the left of the authentication option you want (for example Password), then enter your answer.
    • Machine Authentication (Device Authentication) - Select the VPN server authentication option.
  8. Click OK. This button is near the bottom of the Authentication Settings window.

Method 3 of 4: On iPhone

  1. Open



    Settings.
    Click the gray box with a wheel image. You can find Settings on the Home screen.
  2. Scroll down and tap

  3. Scroll down and select VPN. This option is near the bottom of the General page.
  4. Find a VPN connection. Find the name of the VPN connection in the list below.

  7. Configure VPN information. You can change the following information:

  4. Select VPN. Tap the VPN you want to edit.

    • Name - Enter a new name for the VPN.
    • Connection type Click this option, then choose a new connection type (eg PPTP).
    • Server address - Update VPN address.
    • Username - Update username.
    • Password - Update password.
