In this article, wikiHow shows you how to change the Virtual Private Network settings on a Mac, Windows or on iPhone and Android smartphones. To configure VPN settings, you must first connect to the VPN. Most VPNs are not provided for free, you need to register and pay before connecting.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: On Windows

1. Open Start

   

   (Starting). Click the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen.
2. Open Settings

   

   (Setting). Click on the wheel icon in the lower left corner of the Start window.

   Network & Internet. This option is in the middle of the Settings window.
4. Click VPN. This tab is on the left side of the Network & Internet menu.
5. Select VPN. Click on the name of the VPN you want to edit the configuration.
6. Click Advanced options (Advance setting). This option is under the VPN name of your choice. This will open the VPN page.
   • Click ＋ Add a VPN connection (Add a VPN connection) if this is your first time adding a VPN connection.
7. Click Edit (Edit). This option is in the middle of the page. The VPN settings page will open.
8. Configure VPN information. You can change the following information:
   • Connection name (Connection name) - The name of the VPN on the computer.
   • Server name or address (Server name or address) - Change the VPN server address.
   • VPN type (VPN type) - Change the connection type.
   • Type of sign-in info (Login info type) - Select a new login information type (eg Password (Password))
   • User name (optional) (Username (optional)) - If necessary, change the username to log in to the VPN.
   • Password (optional) (Password (optional)) - If necessary, change the VPN login password.
9. Click the button Save (Save). This button is at the bottom of the page. This will save and apply changes to VPN settings. advertisement

Method 2 of 4: On a Mac

1. Open the Apple menu

   

   
   
   . Click the Apple logo in the upper left corner of the screen. You will see a drop-down menu appear.
2. Click System Preferences… (Customize system). The option is at the top of the Apple menu.
3. Click Network (Network). This option has a purple globe icon in the middle of the System Preferences page.
4. Select VPN. Click on the VPN name in the leftmost column in the network window. You should see the VPN settings appear on the right side of the screen.
   • If this is your first time setting up a VPN, click the mark ＋ in the lower left corner of the network connection window and select VPN in the "Interface" menu, then enter the VPN information.
5. Configure VPN. You can change the following settings:
   • Configuration (Configuration) - Click the dialog box at the top of the window, then choose a configuration type (eg Default (Default)) in the drop-down menu.
   • Server Address (Server Address) - Enter the new server address.
   • Account Name (Account name) - Rename the account using the VPN login.
6. Click Authentication Settings ... (Authentication setting...). This option is under the Account Name field.
7. Configure authentication settings. You can change the options below:
   • User Authentication (Authenticate users) - Check the box to the left of the authentication option you want (for example Password), then enter your answer.
   • Machine Authentication (Device Authentication) - Select the VPN server authentication option.
8. Click OK. This button is near the bottom of the Authentication Settings window.
9. Click Apply (Apply). This will save the VPN settings and apply it to your connection. advertisement

Method 3 of 4: On iPhone

   Settings. Click the gray box with a wheel image. You can find Settings on the Home screen.
2. Scroll down and tap

   

   General. This option is at the top of the Settings page.
3. Scroll down and select VPN. This option is near the bottom of the General page.
4. Find a VPN connection. Find the name of the VPN connection in the list below.
5. Click ⓘ. This button is to the right of the VPN connection name.
6. Click Edit (Edit). This option is in the upper-right corner of the screen.
7. Configure VPN information. You can change the following information:
   • Server (Server) - Update the VPN server address when changes are made.
   • Remote ID (Controller ID) - Update the VPN controller ID.
   • User Authentication (Authenticated users) - Click, then select Username or Certificate (certified) to change the authentication method.
   • Username or Certificate - Enter the username or certificate to authenticate the VPN.
   • Password - Enter the VPN password (If needed).
8. Click Done (Finish). This option is in the upper-right corner of the screen. This is the action to save and update VPN changes. advertisement

Method 4 of 4: On Android

1. Open

2. Scroll down and select More (More). This option is under "Wireless & networks".
3. Click VPN. You can find this option under "Wireless & networks" in the drop-down menu.
4. Select VPN. Tap the VPN you want to edit.
5. Configure VPN. You can change the following information:
   • Name - Enter a new name for the VPN.
   • Connection type Click this option, then choose a new connection type (eg PPTP).
   • Server address - Update VPN address.
   • Username - Update username.
   • Password - Update password.
6. Click Save (Save). This option is in the lower right corner of the screen. This is the action to save and update changes to the VPN. advertisement

• Entering incorrect information when configuring the VPN can cause VPN problems with functioning.
