This article shows you how to transfer iTunes music library from one computer to another, in addition, you can also use the Home Sharing feature if both computers are connected to the same wireless network and post enter the same Apple account

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Use an external hard drive

1. Make sure you have iTunes installed on the other computer. For example, if you transfer your library from your home computer to a new computer, you must have iTunes installed on that computer before continuing.
2. Open iTunes. Perform this step on your home computer to switch libraries.
3. Click File (File). This is either on the top left of the screen (Mac) or on the top left of the iTunes (Windows) window.
4. Choose Thư viện (Library). This item is near the bottom of the drop-down menu File.
5. Click Organize Library ... (Library organization). The item on the menu appears.
6. Select the "Consolidate files" box. The item above the Organize Library window appears.

   • On a Mac computer, you may be asked to enter your Apple ID password before proceeding.
   • This may take a few minutes.
8. Connect the external hard drive to the computer. Plug the USB cable into the computer's USB port.
   • If using a Mac computer, you need a USB-C to USB-3.0 adapter to connect the hard drive to the computer.
9. Copy the iTunes folder. This process will be different depending on the computer:
   • Mac Open Finder, click the Mac hard drive in the upper left corner, double-click the folder Music, click folder iTunes, click Edit (Edit), and click Copy (Copy).

10. Open the external hard drive. Click the name of the external hard drive to the left of Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows).
11. Copy the iTunes folder to the hard drive. Click Edit and click Paste (Paste) (for Mac) or press the key Ctrl and V at the same time (for Windows).
12. Wait for the iTunes folder to finish copying. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the size of the library.
13. Disconnect the external hard drive. To do this:
    • Mac Click on the icon ⏏ Eject to the right of the drive's name in the Finder window, then unplug the hard drive cable from the computer.
    • Windows Click on the hard drive with the tick icon in the lower right corner of the screen (you must first click ^ here), then click options Eject and unplug the drive from the computer.
14. Connect the external drive to the new computer.
15. Open the external drive. To do this:
    • Mac Open Finder, then click the name of the external hard drive on the left side of the Finder window.
    • Windows - Open Start, click the icon File Explorer, and click the name of the external hard drive on the left side of the Explorer window.
16. Copy iTunes folder. Click the folder, then click Edit And after that Copy (Mac) or press Ctrl+C (Windows).
17. Access your new computer's iTunes folder. To do this:
    • Mac Click your Mac's hard drive in the top left corner of the Finder, and double-click the folder Music, and find the directory iTunes.
    • Windows Click on folder Music on the left side of the File Explorer window, then find the folder iTunes.
18. Delete the iTunes folder. Click the folder, then click Edit and click Move to Trash (Mac) or press Delete (Windows).
    • If the new computer has music files, deleting the iTunes folder will also delete the music file. If you want to keep the music file, you need to copy the iTunes folder of your new computer, paste it elsewhere (such as on the desktop), delete from the folder Music, and then go back to the iTunes folder of the external hard drive and copy again.
19. Paste the copied iTunes folder into the Music folder. Click Edit And after that Paste (Mac) or press Ctrl+V (Windows). The iTunes folder from the external drive will begin copying itself to the Music folder.
    • This can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the size of your iTunes library.
20. Open iTunes after the folder is finished copying. The music will appear in iTunes library. advertisement

Method 2 of 2: Use Home Sharing

1. Complete the required Home Sharing requirement. To use Home Sharing between two computers, you must have iTunes installed on both machines, they must be on the same network (wired or Wi-Fi), and you must have the Apple ID associated with your iTunes account.
2. Open iTunes on your home computer and on a new computer. Make sure iTunes is completely open and up to date before proceeding.
   • If iTunes on your computer has not been updated, you will see a window displaying a new version of iTunes available. Click the button Download iTunes (Download iTunes) in the window that appears, then wait for the update to install and restart your computer when asked.
3. Turn on Home Sharing on your new computer. Click File, choose Home Sharing in the drop-down menu, click Turn On Home Sharing, and enter your Apple ID password when prompted.
4. Turn on Home Sharing on your home computer. You will perform this step following the same method of enabling Home Sharing on your new computer.
   • Enabling Home Sharing on the computer to which you move the library to the front will avoid fewer errors than in reverse sequence.
5. Click on the frame Music on a new computer. The note icon is in the upper left corner of the iTunes window.
6. Click on the name of your home computer library. The item is at the bottom of the drop-down menu under the frame Music. Then the home computer library will appear.
7. Select the music you want to transfer. Click the song, then press ⌘ Command+A to select all songs in the library. You can also select individual songs by holding down the key ⌘ Command and click each post.
8. Move songs to the new computer library. Click and drag the selected song onto the "Music" tab on the left side of the window, then release. This step will begin transferring the selected song to the new computer's iTunes folder.
   • Dragging a selected song drags other selected songs.
