Today's wikiHow shows how to prevent Facebook from sending text message notifications to your mobile phone, even if you're not using Facebook. If the Facebook Messenger app is receiving unwanted messages, you can block those messages on Messenger.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: On the phone
Open the messaging app (SMS). You can send a text message to a special Facebook number to stop receiving messages from Facebook, even if you are not using Facebook.
Start a new message sent to the Facebook SMS number. This number will vary depending on your current country. You can check the country and vendor specific numbers at the Facebook Help support page. Here are a few of the most common:- USA, UK, Brazil, Mexico, Canada - 32665 (some small carriers will be different)
- Vietnam - 32665 (Mobifone)
- India - 51555
Texting Stop.
Send Message. You may be notified that the message will charge for the same as regular text messaging. You don't need to worry too much.
Wait for the message to respond. You will receive a response message from a number other than the content that text messages from Facebook have been turned off. You will no longer receive any text messages from Facebook to mobile numbers. advertisement
Method 2 of 4: on Facebook app (iPhone)
Open the Facebook app. You need to make sure that you are logged in with the correct Facebook account to change the text message settings.
Press the button ☰ in the lower right corner of the screen.
Scroll down and tap Settings (Setting).
Click Account Settings (Account Settings).
Click Notifications (Notification).
Click Text Message (Text messages).
Click Edit (Edit) in the frame Notifications.
Click the box Get text notifications (Receive text message notifications) to deselect. The text message stops sending to the associated phone number. advertisement
Method 3 of 4: on Facebook app (Android)
Open the Facebook app. You need to make sure that you are logged in with the correct Facebook account to change the text message settings.
Press the button ☰ in the upper right corner.
Scroll down and tap Account Settings. This option is in the section Help & Settings (Install & help).
Click Notifications.
Click Text Message.
Click Edit in section Notifications.
Click the box Get text notifications to deselect. Facebook account notifications will no longer be sent via text messages. advertisement
Method 4 of 4: On the Facebook website
Visit the Facebook website. You can use the Facebook website to turn off text messaging notification settings, as well as completely remove your phone number from your account.
Log in with your Facebook account. You must be signed in to the account associated with the phone number that is receiving the notification message.
Click the button ▼ in the upper right corner of the Facebook page, to the right of the blue bar after you are logged in.
Click Settings.
Click the card Notifications on the left side of the page.
Click the item Text message.
Click the radio button Off (Turn off).
Click Save Changes (Save changes). The new notification will no longer be sent to your phone number.
Completely delete the phone number if the message continues to be sent. If you still receive text messages from Facebook, you can completely delete the phone number by:
- Log in to Facebook and open the menu Settings.
- Click the card Mobile (Phone number).
- Click Remove (Delete) next to the phone number.
- Click Remove Phone (Delete phone number) to confirm.
