This wikiHow teaches you how to play Pokemon games using an emulator on your Windows computer. You can download Nintendo DS, Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance versions of your favorite Pokemon game.

Steps

Part 1 of 4: Downloading ROMs

  1. Open the Love Roms website. Go to https://www.loveroms.com/ in your computer browser.

  2. Click on the "Enter Keyword or ROM Title" search box in the middle of the page.
  3. Import pokemon into the frame. Here's how you can find Pokemon titles on the page.

  4. Click Search (Search). All Pokemon related games on the page will be searched.
  5. Find Pokemon games. Scroll across the results to find the Pokemon game you want to download, make sure the game you are looking for shows either the "Nintendo DS", "Gameboy Color" or "Gameboy Advance" platform on the right side of the page.
    • Pay attention to the rating of the game you choose. Usually, a Pokemon game will have multiple versions, some of which will be better than others.

  6. Choose a game. Click on the Pokemon game you want to download. The game's page will open.
  7. Uncheck the box "Install LoveROMS Search Extension" located below the button DOWNLOAD NOW green on the game page.

Part 2 of 4: Using the Nintendo DS emulator

  1. Determine the computer's bit count. To download Nintendo DS emulator, you need to know whether the computer uses a 32 bit or 64 bit processor.
  2. Open the DeSmuME page. Go to https://desmume.org/download/ in a web browser. DeSmuME is a Nintendo DS emulator designed for both Windows and Mac computers.

  4. Open the ZIP folder DeSmuME. Double-click the downloaded ZIP folder to open it.

  7. Click an option Extract is at the bottom of the new window. Content in the ZIP folder will be unzipped and opened in the usual new folder.
  8. Open DeSmuME. Double-click the application file DeSmuME to open. The DeSmuME emulator will open.
    • You may need to click Yes when prompted to confirm the opening of DeSmuME.
  9. Click the card File in the upper left corner of the DeSmuME window. A drop-down menu will appear.
  10. Click Open ROM ... (Open ROM). This option is at the top of the drop-down menu.
  11. Select the ROM you just downloaded. Click on the ROM you downloaded. You may need to click a folder Downloads on the left side of the window to find the ROM.

  12. Click Open (Open). The ROM will open in the Nintendo DS emulator, at which point the game will begin.

Part 3 of 4: Using the Gameboy Color emulator


  1. Open the BGB page. Go to https://www.loveroms.com/emudownload/gameboy-color/bgb/63984 using your web browser.
  2. Uncheck the "Install Yahoo Search Extension" box located below the button DOWNLOAD NOW green in the middle of the page.

  3. Click an option DOWNLOAD NOW in the middle of the page.
  4. Click START DOWNLOAD when the option appears. The BGB emulator's ZIP folder will begin downloading to your computer.
  5. Open the BGB ZIP folder. Double-click the ZIP folder to open it.
  6. Click the card Extract at the top of the window.
  7. Click Extract all. This option is on the right side of the toolbar Extract at the top of the window. A new window will open.
  8. Click the button Extract is at the bottom of the new window. Content in the ZIP folder will be unzipped and opened in the usual new folder.
  9. Double-click the application bgb. The app is gray with a black navigation key icon. The BGB emulator window will open.
  10. Right click on the emulator window. A drop-down menu will appear.
    • If your mouse does not have a right mouse button, click the right mouse button or use two fingers to click.
    • If the computer uses the trackpad instead of the mouse, you can press two fingers down on the trackpad or press the bottom right of the trackpad.
  11. Click an option Load ROM ... (Load ROM) is near the top of the drop-down menu.
  12. Select the ROM you just downloaded. Click on the ROM you downloaded.You may need to click a folder Downloads located on the left side of the window to find the ROM.

  5. Open the VisualBoyAdvance ZIP folder. Double-click the ZIP folder to open it.
  6. Click the card Extract at the top of the window.
  7. Click Extract all. This option is on the right side of the toolbar Extract top of the window. A new window will open.
  8. Click Extract is at the bottom of the new window. Content in the ZIP folder will be unzipped and opened in the usual new folder.
  9. Double-click VisualBoyAdvance. This purple icon is in a new window. The VisualBoyAdvance program will open.
  10. Click the card File in the upper left corner of the VisualBoyAdvance window. A drop-down menu will appear.
  11. Click an option Open ... near the top of the drop-down menu.
  12. Select the downloaded ROM. Click on the ROM you just downloaded. You may need to open a folder Downloads on the left side of the window to find the ROM.

  13. Click Open. The ROM will open in the Game Boy Advance emulator, at which point the game will begin. advertisement

Advice

  • Remember to save the process! You can usually do this either in-game or from the menu File.

  • Downloading ROMs for games outside your possession is not valid, and even Nintendo's terms of use do not allow users to download ROMs for games they own.
