Most modern smartphones can be used as a mobile network through a process called tethering. Other devices can connect to your phone's network, using the data signal to access the internet. Follow this guide to enable tethering with your phone.

Method 1 of 2: Tethering with a subscription

1. Open the "Settings" menu. You can do this by tapping the gear icon on the home screen, or by tapping the settings app in your App drawer.
2. Open the "Tethering & mobile hotspot" menu. It's under the Wi-Fi and Data Usage section of the "Settings" menu. Depending on your device, you may have to tap "More ..." to find the option.
3. Move the slider next to "Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot" to On. If your plan allows you to use a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, go to the settings screen. If you do not have access to a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, you will receive a message on how to access it.
4. Adjust your settings. You can set passwords and adjust the number of devices that can access your hotspot. It is recommended that you set a password so that foreign devices cannot just access your data. You can also add the Network Name that others can connect to.
5. Link your devices to it. Once tethering is enabled, open the network settings of the device you want to connect to. Search for the network you created by tethering. Enter the password and your device is connected to your own hotspot.

Method 2 of 2: Tethering with a third-party app

1. Download a separate app. Some providers do not allow you to download a separate app from the Play Store, because you can bypass the paid tethering service. To download these apps you need to go directly to the developer's website.
   • Download the .APK file from your phone's browser. When it's done, tap the file in your notification bar to install it.
   • You must make sure that you can install third-party apps on your phone. Open the "Settings" menu and scroll down to "Security". In the "Security" menu, set the slider at "Unknown sources" to On. Now you can install apps that have not been downloaded from the Play store.
2. Open the app. You will now be given options to configure your WiFi hotspot. You can set the network name and a password. Check the box to activate the hotspot.
3. Connect to your devices. Once the app is running, other devices can connect to your network. Select the correct network and enter the password to connect.

Warnings

• Tethering takes a lot out of your battery. Plug in your charger to ensure a stable connection.
• If you use your hotspot with multiple devices, you will quickly run out of data. Tetheren works best if you have a subscription with unlimited internet.
• Tethering with a third-party app is not allowed by most providers. If you are caught, your subscription may be terminated. Tethering is at your own risk.
