Downloading all the bits and bytes of a game takes a lot longer than downloading, say, a wikiHow article. So your Xbox does take a while to download your game, and this can disrupt your connection during a crucial moment in call of Duty. To prevent this, you can set your Xbox to download games when you turn off your console.

Method 1 of 3: Xbox One

1. Go to the home screen. This is the main menu of your Xbox, and the first thing you see when you turn on the console. To open the home screen, press the middle X button on your controller and select "Go Home".
2. Press the menu button on your controller. This is the small button on the center-right of your controller.
3. Find the "Power mode and start up" option in the settings menu. Click on "Settings" → "Power mode and start up". Here you can set your Xbox to go to standby when you switch it off. It will then automatically find and complete downloads and updates.
4. Select "Standby Mode". This way, your Xbox will always remain in standby mode, allowing it to complete downloads when you close it.

Method 2 of 3: Xbox 360

1. Complete pending downloads by turning your Xbox off to Power Saver mode. The Xbox 360 can only complete downloads when the system is on. This is turned on automatically, so if you start a download and then turn off your Xbox, the game will continue to download.
   • With the following steps you can turn on Power Saver mode if you think it is off.
2. Press the center X button and select "Settings". You can do this in any screen.
3. Select "System Settings" and then "Console Settings". Here you can adjust the energy mode.
4. Go to the "Background Downloads" option and make sure it is turned on. These can be found in the "Startup and Shutdown" section of the settings. Your downloads will now complete in the background.

Method 3 of 3: Xbox

1. Go to the Xbox Dashboard. Select "Home" in the top right corner.
2. Select "System Settings" from the drop-down menu.
3. Go to the section "Startup and shutdown". You will now see the options for shutting down your Xbox, which allows you to enable background downloads, among other things.
4. Select the option "Download when the Xbox is turned off".
5. Turn off your Xbox when you are done playing.
   • Your Xbox will now not turn off completely and the power button will blink.
   • Your game will now download at approximately 1/4 normal speed.
