Shedinja is a mysterious Pokémon hovering motionless in the air with a halo around its head. It has only 1 HP, but is invulnerable to the majority of the attacks in the game. To obtain a Shedinja, you must evolve a Nincada and meet some other requirements. Shedinja can be a powerful and unexpected asset to your competitive team.

To step

  1. Catch a Nincada. Shedinja appears when a Nincada evolves into Ninjask, as long as you meet the right conditions. You can find Shedinja in the following locations depending on which version you are playing.
    • Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald - You can find Nincada in the Grass, along Route 116.
    • FireRed and LeafGreen - You'll have to trade for a Nincada.
    • Diamond, Pearl and Platinum - You can find Nincada in the Eterna Forest, but you will need to get the Poké Radar first.
    • HeartGold and SoulSilver - You can catch a Nincada during the Bug Catching Contest in the National Park on Thursdays and Saturdays.
    • Black, White, B2, W2 - You will have to act for Nincada.
    • X and Y - You can find Nincada in the Grass, along Route 6. You can also find him in a Friend Safari of the Ground type.
    • Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire - You can find Nincada in the Grass, along Route 116.
  2. Keep a place empty on your team. You need an empty seat on your squad to receive a Shedinja when Nincada evolves. This means that you cannot have more than five Pokémon with you, including Nincada.
  3. Have a leftover Pokéball (some versions only). Certain versions of the game require you to have at least one PokéBall in stock. It should be a standard PokéBall, not as special as an UltraBall.
    • Diamond, Pearl and Platinum do not require an extra PokéBall. All other versions do require this.
    • Note that since Diamond, Pearl and Platinum do not have a PokéBall requirement, Shedinja will copy the Poké Ball used to capture Nincada. This is the only way to get a Shedinja into a non-standard PokéBall type.
  4. Raise Nincada to at least Level 20. This is the first level where Nincada will attempt to evolve into Ninjask. Make sure you meet both the environmental and PokéBall requirements before allowing Nincada to evolve. Otherwise you will not get Shedinja. You can level up Nincada's through combat or by using Rare Candies.
    • By preventing your Nincada from evolving, you can continue to train both your Nincada and your Shedinja simultaneously. You can do this because the Shedinja will inherit everything from the Shedinja as it evolves. You can prevent an evolution by holding down "B" during the evolution. As an example, preventing your Nincada from evolving until it reaches Level 50 will create a Level 50 Shedinja. With all the "moves" the Nincada has learned up to that point.
  5. Allow Nincada to Evolve, to get Shedinja. As long as you meet the requirements, Shedinja will appear on your team. You will not be notified that you have received it.
    • Since Shedinja evolves from Nincada, if your Nincada is Shiny, your Shedinja will be too. Shedinja also inherits all the EVs and IVs from Nincada.
    • Shedinja has 1 HP but is vulnerable to little. With Shedinja's Wonder Guard ability, he can only be hit by "Super Effective" attacks. This includes "moves" such as Fire, Flying, Ghost, and Dark. It can also be dealt a hefty blow. When you learn Shedinja Quick Claw, you can deliver the first punch and knock down your enemies before they use a super-effective "move".
