Perfumes and fragrances with a floral scent are perfect for making you smell like a summer garden. However, you don't have to spend a lot of money to get that done. Using just a few ingredients, you can make your own perfume to use yourself or to give as a gift to someone else.

Ingredients

Alcohol based perfume

  • 180 grams of fresh rose petals
  • 120 ml of vodka with 40-50% alcohol
  • 600 ml of distilled water

Fragrant rose water

  • 120 grams of fresh rose petals
  • 120 ml of distilled water

To step

Method 1 of 2: Make alcohol-based perfume

  1. Rinse the roses gently under the cold tap. If the water is too warm, some of the aromatic oils may come out of the flowers before you can collect them yourself. Rinsing the flowers will remove any fertilizer, dirt, bugs and other pollutants you don't want in your perfume. You don't have to rinse the spots between the petals thoroughly.
    • Do not dry the petals after you rinse them.
    • You will probably need 1 to 3 roses, depending on the rose variety and the size of the petals.
  2. Place the petals in a large glass jar with a lid. You can also use a bowl with a lid. Whatever you use, make sure it has a capacity of at least 1.2 liters and a lid or cap to seal it. A large glass jar with a screw lid works well.
  3. Put the lid on the jar and place it in a cool, dark place for 4-7 days. Stir the petals once a day and crush them with a cooking spoon. Do not pour more distilled water into the pot. Quickly put the lid back on the pot after stirring.
  4. Strain the mixture into clean glass perfume bottles. Use a fine metal strainer to remove the petals from the moisture and pour the moisture into an airtight glass bottle with a cap. To keep the perfume as long as possible, keep it in the fridge and shake it before use. It will keep for a month. The smell is strongest when you spray the perfume on warmer areas on your body, such as on your wrist and on your neck.
    • You can also use a colander or a piece of cheesecloth for the sieving.

Method 2 of 2: Make scented rose water

  1. Place 1 cup of rose petals in a medium sized bowl. It doesn't matter which rose variety you use. If you wish, you can rinse the petals beforehand under the cold tap to remove any dirt particles that may still be on the petals. Be careful not to prick yourself with the thorns.
  2. Pour the water from the second bowl back into the petals. Let the petals soak in the water for at least another five minutes. The first bowl should now be filled with the crushed rose petals and the water from the second bowl.
  3. Strain the petals out of the water and squeeze out the excess water. It is best to use a spoon for this. Then, using a small funnel, pour the water into an empty perfume bottle and use the perfume. Keep the perfume in the fridge for longer life.

Warnings

  • Do not spray the perfume on sensitive skin and your eyes, nose and mouth.
