Have you ever grown tired of certain music, but it can't be burned away from your playlist? Or maybe you bought an album just to find that track 7 makes you feel like you want to shut your ears? Don't worry: with a few quick mouse clicks you can free your computer from that song and never have to listen to it again! Here you can learn how:

To step

  1. Launch iTunes. Usually this is in your dock. If it is not there, open "iTunes" in Searchlight or Windows Search, and click on the result.
  2. Click the My Music tab. You can find this in the iTunes control menu. A list of your songs will appear.
  3. Find and select the song you want to delete. Shift-click to select multiple adjacent tracks, or Command-click (Ctrl-click on a PC) to select individual tracks.
  4. Delete the number. You can do this in three different ways:
    • From the "Edit" menu, select "Delete" (as indicated above).
    • Right-click on the unwanted number and select "Delete" from the menu.
    • Press the Delete key.
  5. Confirm the deletion. iTunes will ask if you are sure you want to delete the song from your computer. Click on "Delete item" to confirm this.
    • You can also choose to delete the song from iCloud, if you had it stored there too.

Tips

  • You cannot select more catalogs than that of one artist at a time.
  • You can delete entire albums with this method, or even the entire catalog of a particular artist. To select entire albums, click the Album tab at the top. For artists, click the Artists tab.

Warnings

  • If you want to delete a song that has not been copied to the cloud or is in a different format, you may lose the song completely.
