Modeling clay is not intended to be dried or hardened. In addition to ordinary clay, it contains oil. This oil makes it impossible for the clay to harden, and if you put it in the oven - as you would with regular clay - it melts. Modeling clay is meant to stay soft. It is used to work with the hands, to create a model for inspiration, and then transform it into something new. However, if you have one of the following clays and want to harden it, read on to Step 1 for more advice.

1. Reserve time in a professional clay oven to harden modeling clay. You can find these types of ovens at art supply stores, community centers and schools. If you are not yet familiar with baking clay in a clay oven, ask the people at the oven to help you.

Warnings

• Always poke an air hole in a clay workpiece if there is an air bubble in it. Otherwise, your work piece will break due to the hot air that expands, and it may even explode if it hardens.
