The Xbox One is the latest addition to the Microsoft Xbox family. The device is clearly more powerful than the Xbox 360, and connecting online with this console is simple and technically very simple.

Method 1 of 2: With an Ethernet cable

1. Make sure you have an ethernet cable. You need an ethernet cable to connect from your Xbox One to the internet source. Take into account the length of the cable and the distance from your console to your internet source: make sure the cable is not too short!
   • Your Xbox may come with a cable, but you'll have to get one otherwise. Recent Xbox One devices do not come with a cable.
2. Connect the ethernet cable to your LAN port. On the back of the Xbox One, in the lower right corner next to the infrared sensor, you will see the LAN port of your console. You connect the ethernet cable here.
3. Connect the ethernet cable to your internet source. You connect the other end of the Ethernet cable directly to the internet source. Remember that the internet source can be your router or your modem.
   • It can also be a wall socket for an Ethernet connection.
4. Turn on your console. After setting up the wire connection, you can turn on the Xbox One. You should already be able to access the internet at the first boot.
   • You can turn on your console by pressing the Home button on your Xbox One controller. The Xbox One has speech recognition that allows you to start the console by simply giving the command "Xbox On". The Xbox One Kinect can also recognize you via a biometric scan, with which the device automatically logs in to your user account via facial recognition.

Method 2 of 2: With a wireless connection

1. Connect to WiFi. Just like the Xbox 360 Slim, the Xbox One can easily and directly connect to wireless internet! The device has a built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi Direct that allows it to automatically connect directly to your router.
2. Turn on your console. The first time you turn on the console it will not automatically connect to the internet, because it does not yet know the access name and password of your router.
3. Choose your signal. In the network menu, the Xbox One will show all Wi-Fi hotspots within range of its signal. Once the Xbox One has discovered your router on the network, you can select it and go online.You may need to enter your router's password first, depending on your router's current security settings. Xbox One will then remember these wireless settings and use them to automatically go online for your next sessions.
   • If you have an ethernet cable connected to your console, it will automatically go into "fixed" internet mode. If you want to keep a wireless connection, all you have to do is remove the ethernet cable from your device.
   • You may need to adjust your console's wireless configuration if you are unable to get online with your console. When in doubt, set everything to automatic or reset the console to factory settings.
