This article will show you how to change your Facebook URL by changing your Facebook username. Your Facebook username is used as the default web address at the end of your profile URL. You can change your Facebook username on the normal Facebook website or by using the Facebook Messenger app for iOS or Android.

Method 1 of 2: Change your profile URL using the Messenger app

1. Open Facebook Messenger. The app resembles a blue speech bubble with a white lightning bolt in it. While you can't change your profile URL with the Facebook mobile app, you can do it from Messenger.
   • If you are not signed in to Messenger, please do so with your phone number (or email address) and password for Facebook.
   • You can also open the Facebook Messenger app from the Facebook app by tapping the icon in the top right corner that resembles a speech bubble with a lightning bolt.
2. Tap the black speech bubble icon in the lower left corner of the screen. When a chat screen is open, click the back button in the top left corner of the screen until you see the icon with the black speech bubble.
   • If Messenger is open on a conversation, first press the "Back" button in the top left corner of the screen.
3. Tap your profile icon. This is either in the top left corner of the screen (iPhone) or the top right corner of the screen (Android).
   • On iPhone, this icon will display your Facebook profile picture if you have one.
4. Press User name. This option is located roughly in the middle of the screen.
5. Press Edit username. This is a pop-up option on this page.
6. Type a new username. This is the text that will appear after the "/" in the URL "www.facebook.com/.
7. Press Save (iPhone) or ✓ (Android) in the top right corner of the screen. This will change your Facebook URL and display your new username at the end of the URL.
   • If you don't see this option, your typed username is not available.

Method 2 of 2: Change your profile URL on a desktop

1. Go to the Facebook website. To do this, you must surf to https://www.facebook.com/ in your browser.
   • If you are not logged in to Facebook, please enter your email address (or phone number) and password before continuing.
2. click on ▼. This is located at the top right of the Facebook page, just to the right of the "?" Icon.
3. click on Settings at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
4. click on User name near the top of the options list on the General page.
   • If you don't see this option, make sure to view the General page by clicking "General" in the top left corner of the page.
5. Type a new username. Do this in the text field to the right of the text "Username".
6. click on Saving Changes. This is a blue button at the bottom of the Username section.
   • If this button is gray instead of blue, your typed username has already been taken.
7. Enter your Facebook password and click Submit. As long as your password is correct, this will save your username and apply it to your Facebook URL.

Tips

• Facebook recommends using your real name as part of your profile URL, as this makes it easier for people to find you based on your URL.

Warnings

• Changing your URL on desktop or mobile will change it for all synced devices and services (eg Facebook Messenger).
• It may take a while for your new URL to appear as your username in Facebook Messenger.
