This wikiHow teaches you how to type emoji in an Instagram comment. You can do this on both iPhone and Android by using your phone's built-in emoji keyboard, the Instagram app, and on your desktop by copying and pasting emoji from a supported website.

Method 1 of 3: On an iPhone

1. Enable your iPhone's Emoji keyboard. If you don't have the built-in emoji keyboard enabled, you will need to activate it before continuing:
   • Open Settings Open Instagram. This app resembles a colored camera. This will open your Instagram home page if you are already logged in.
     • If you are not logged in to Instagram, enter your username (or phone number) and password and tap Sign Up.
   • Go to a post you want to reply to. Scroll down your home page to find a message or tap the magnifying glass icon and type an account name to view specific messages.
     • You can also put emoji in the caption section of your own Instagram post.
   • Tap the speech bubble icon. It's below the Instagram post image on the left side of the screen. This will place your cursor in the comment box and bring up your iPhone's keyboard.
   • Tap the emoji keyboard icon. This is the smiley face at the bottom left of the keyboard. Your emoji keyboard will appear in place of your regular keyboard.
     • If you have more than one additional keyboard, this icon is a globe. Tap and hold the globe, then select Emoji.
     • Tap on ABC at the bottom left of the screen to switch back to your original keyboard.
   • Select an emoji to post. You can scroll left or right through all available emoji; if you tap on the emoji you want to post, it will appear in the comment box.
   • Tap on Place. This is on the right side of the text field. This will post your emoji comment.

Method 2 of 3: On an Android

1. Open Instagram. This app resembles a colored camera. This will open your Instagram home page if you are already logged in.
   • If you are not logged in to Instagram, enter your username (or phone number) and password and tap Sign Up.
2. Go to a post you want to reply to. You can scroll down the home page to find a post, or you can tap the magnifying glass icon to search for a specific user.
   • You can also put emoji in the caption section of your own Instagram post.
3. Tap the speech bubble icon. You will see this icon below the photo of the Instagram post. This should make your Android's keyboard appear.
4. Tap the emoji keyboard icon. It looks like a smiley face; you can see it at the bottom left or bottom right of the keyboard.
   • If you don't see the emoji icon, tap the Back - button and hold it. You should see the emoji option appear.
5. Select an emoji to post. You can scroll left or right through all available emoji; if you tap on the emoji you want to post, it will appear in the comment box.
6. Tap on ✓. This is on the right side of the text field. Doing so will post your emoji comment.

Method 3 of 3: On your desktop

Windows

1. Open the Instagram website. Go to https://www.instagram.com in your preferred browser. This will open your home page if you are already logged in.
   • If you are not logged in to Instagram, click Sign Up, enter your username (or phone number) and password and click Sign Up.
2. Go to a post you want to reply to. Scroll down the home page until you find a post you want to reply to, or type the name of a specific account in the "Search" bar at the top of the page.
3. Click on the comment box. It's the white field below the Instagram post that says "Add a comment ...". This will place your mouse cursor in the field.
4. Click the Touch keyboard icon. This is the keyboard-shaped icon at the bottom left of the screen, but you may need to press first Click on the smiley face. This icon is located in the lower left corner of the keyboard.
5. Click on an emoji to type it. You can scroll left or right through a tab of emoji by clicking > or , or you can select different emoji categories by clicking the tabs at the bottom of the keyboard.
6. Press ↵ Enter. Your emoji will be placed with this.

Mac

1. Open the Instagram website. Go to https://www.instagram.com in your preferred browser. This will open your home page if you are already logged in.
   • If you are not logged in to Instagram, click Sign Up, enter your username (or phone number) and password and click Sign Up.
2. Go to a post you want to reply to. Scroll down the home page until you find a post you want to reply to, or type the name of a specific account in the "Search" bar at the top of the page.
3. Click on the comment box. It's the white field below the Instagram post that says "Add a comment ...". This will place your mouse cursor in the field.
4. click on To adjust. This menu item is located on the left side of the menu bar at the top of the screen.
5. click on Emoji & Symbols. This is at the bottom of the selection menu.
6. Click on an emoji to type it. You can choose different emoji categories by clicking the tabs at the bottom of the emoji window.
7. Press ⏎ Return. This will post your emoji comment.

Tips

• The emoji keyboard should be enabled on your iPhone by default.

Warnings

• Depending on the platform they are using, some Instagram users may not be able to see your emoji comments.
