The following steps will show you how to make a delicious cup of hot chocolate. Just with cocoa powder and milk.

Ingredients

  • Cocoa powder
  • Water (or milk)
  • Marshmallows (possibly)
  • Condensed milk (see Tips) (optional)
  • Sugar (optional)
  • Vanilla (optional)

To step

Method 1 of 6: Cooker method 1

  1. Bring 3/4 cup of water or milk to a boil (this recipe is for 1 person).
  2. Put 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder (Dutch-processed) and 2 tablespoons of sugar (optional) in a mug and stir well. You can buy Dutch-processed cocoa in any supermarket and is usually used as part of a ready-to-eat chocolate mix. Check the packaging to see if it is made with alkali, which means that it is Dutch-processed. This may not be stated on the packaging.
  3. Once the water or milk has been brought to the boil, pour it into the cup.
  4. Stir well until the cocoa has dissolved. Drink it as soon as possible as the cocoa will settle over time.
  5. Add 1/4 cup of cold milk or water to cool down the drink faster. Look at the "tips" at the end of this page for suggestions on how to make your chocolate a bit creamier.
  6. Add extra seasonings on top (optional). Top with marshmallows or whipped cream (you can also sprinkle some chocolate syrup on top of the whipped cream for garnish). You can also add a teaspoon of pure vanilla extract or peppermint.
  7. Enjoy your hot chocolate!

Method 2 of 6: Stove method 2

  1. Put 1 cup of milk in a saucepan.
  2. Add 4 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder to the pan.
  3. Add the same amount of sugar.
  4. Turn your stove on HIGH.
  5. Keep stirring until it boils.
  6. Remove the pan from the stove and keep stirring.
  7. Grab a cup and add a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  8. Pour the hot chocolate and enjoy!

Method 3 of 6: Microwave method 1

  1. Place 1 tablespoon of cocoa and 2 tablespoons of sugar in a small bowl.
  2. Mix the sugar and chocolate well together.
  3. Place a cup half-filled with milk in the microwave. Let it sit in the microwave for 1 minute and 15 seconds.
  4. Keep stirring the cocoa and sugar until it is well dissolved.
  5. If necessary, add 2 mints.

Method 4 of 6: Microwave method 2

  1. Put chocolate syrup in the bottom of a cup or cup.
  2. Take a glass bowl for the microwave.
  3. Place a teaspoon of cocoa powder and cold milk in the bowl.
  4. Heat the bowl for 30-45 seconds.
  5. Pour the hot drink into the cup.
  6. Add 1 or 2 mints, depending on the amount. Add more chocolate milk and heat for another 1-2 minutes (or until the mints have dissolved and the drink has heated sufficiently.)
  7. Drink it with whipped cream on top and drizzle some chocolate syrup over the cream.
  8. Enjoy your chocolate!

Method 5 of 6: Microwave method 3

  1. Put the cocoa powder in a cup.
  2. Keep stirring the cocoa powder with a fork as you add the milk, a little at a time until the cup is full. If there is still some cocoa powder on top, that is no problem.
  3. Set the microwave on high for 90 seconds.
  4. Remove the cup from the microwave. The cocoa powder on top should look like some sort of custard or syrup. Take a fork and keep stirring, so that the cocoa on top is also stirred well.
  5. Add tasty toppings. To enjoy!

Method 6 of 6: Creamy sugar method

  1. Place 2.5 teaspoons of cocoa powder in a large cup.
  2. Bring a kettle of water to the boil.
  3. Beat about 3/4 of the amount of milk you need in a small bowl until slightly thick and very frothy.
  4. Put the milk in the cup and mix it with the cocoa powder until you have a brown, frothy chocolate milk.
  5. Pour in the boiling hot water from the kettle.
  6. Add as much milk as you want.
  7. Stir in 2 teaspoons of sugar.
  8. Enjoy your sweet, foamy chocolate!

Tips

  • Chocolate milk tastes best warm!
  • If the chocolate milk is too strong, add 2-3 teaspoons of sugar.
  • Do not put the cocoa powder and water together in the microwave as this can form lumps, the chocolate can become watery, or it can explode.
  • If the hot chocolate is too hot, add some cold milk.
  • If you are making chocolate milk with younger children, make sure that they do not burn themselves on the kettle, the pan or the hot chocolate.
  • If you plan to put marshmallows in it, then you don't need that much sugar.
  • Make creamy chocolate milk by stirring in 1 tablespoon of whipped cream.
  • Add some vanilla and cinnamon to your chocolate for an extra spicy taste.
  • You can also add sweetened condensed milk for a sweeter, thicker, and creamier variety.
  • This is fun to do with your kids, but don't forget the marshmallows!

Warnings

  • If you use the microwave, make sure that the cup is suitable for the microwave.
  • Be careful not to burn yourself on the kettle.
