A pair of sturdy trestles are an indispensable tool for any carpenter or DIY enthusiast. You can make your own trestles using a circular saw, tape measure, square, hammer and nails.

To step

  1. Ready.

Tips

  • If you're cutting wood on your trestles, set your saw to the correct depth and you'll take longer with your trestles.
  • If necessary, place an extra 5x10 cm beam on top of the top beam. If you accidentally saw in this, it's not that bad.
  • If you split 5x15 cm beams in half, you have enough load-bearing capacity for most jobs, and the trestles are not too heavy. But for more load-bearing capacity it is better to use 5x10cm beams.
  • Trestles intended for handsaws are often no higher than 50 to 60 cm, this allows you to put your knee on the wood while cutting. Adjust the height of your trestles to what feels right for you, but keep the length of your saw in mind.
  • Instead of supporting beams, you can also use plywood, cut the planks into triangles and screw them to the ends of the legs.

Warnings

  • Protect your eyes when cutting and nailing wood.

Necessities

  • A circular saw, tape measure, square (or bevel), hammer, nails.
  • Wood according to preference. The trestles in the illustrations are made with 2 beams of 3 meters, 5x15 cm. These were split up to 7 cm wide, making 12.2 meters of beams available.
    • 5 bars of 2.5 meters and 5x10 cm should also be sufficient (or 10 bars of 1 to 1.2 meters).
