Congratulations on your new iPhone! Now it's time to activate it so you can start enjoying the new slick technology… and maybe make a few phone calls right away. It is easier to activate the new iPhone in the store, but unfortunately this is not possible if you bought your phone online, in that case you have to activate your phone at home, this article will help you with that.

Method 1 of 2: Activate via Verizon Wireless

1. Make sure you have the most recent version of iTunes. Start iTunes and select "search for updates" from the iTunes menu (on a PC, select "search for updates" in the Help menu).
   • If an update is available, you must download and install it before continuing.
2. Backup the files on your old iPhone. If you use iTunes, you can back up the files on your current iPhone to your PC or the iCloud.
3. Turn off your old iPhone. You should do this to prevent two phones with the same phone number being switched on at the same time.
4. Plug in your iPhone. You can choose to switch on the phone while it is connected to the PC (by means of a cable in the USB port) or by using a wireless connection.
   • If you choose the wireless option, you need to make sure you have all the necessary information about your network at hand.
5. Turn on your new iPhone. Press the on / off button in the top right corner of the iPhone. When the iPhone has booted, you have to go through the setup. This process will walk you through all the steps required to set up your iPhone, which are listed below:
   • Accept the user agreement.
   • Access a WiFi network.
   • Sign in with your Apple ID, create one if you haven't already.
   • Install the iCloud.
   • Activate options such as iPhone tracking options.
   • Activate the phone with Verizon.
   • The setup will walk you through the steps required to retrieve your information from iCloud or iTunes.

Method 2 of 2: Activate through AT&T

1. Backup the files on your old iPhone. If you use iTunes you can back up your current iPhone via the computer or the iCloud.
2. Go to the AT&T wireless activation site. www.wireless.att.com/activation
3. Follow the instructions. You will be asked for: a verification code, your wireless number and what kind of account you want to create.
4. Start up your new phone. When you have finished installing your new AT&T iPhone, you can turn it off.
   • Then wait five minutes before turning the phone back on. Your new iPhone should now be activated.

Tips

• It may take a few minutes for activation to complete.
• Check that your phone is properly attached to the USB port and that there is enough battery power left to complete the process.

Warnings

• It has happened that there were problems with activating an iPhone via AT&T. If your AT&T installation is not working properly, you should contact AT&T for support.
