With a cabin, you can turn a boring space into a place where you can have a lot of fun. By building a cabin you can play with others, be creative and come up with all kinds of things for your cabin. If you want to know how to make a sturdy cabin that you can spend hours in, read the article below.

To step

Method 1 of 4: Using bookcases

  1. Make sure you have a large, open space at your disposal. Make enough space for your cabin.
  2. Drag two wide bookcases to the right place. Lay the cabinets on their sides so that the shelves face each other.
  3. Place a mattress on the floor. Place an old mattress, a piece of foam rubber, a pile of pillows, or some other soft surface on the floor between the bookcases.
  4. Make the roof. Create a roof by placing a piece of plywood over the two bookcases. You can also use a sheet or other material. Use weights or pegs to hold the roof in place.
  5. Raise the roof. If you want, you can make the roof higher by placing a stick or pole in the middle. Grab a thin, long, sturdy stick or pole that is longer than the bookcases and place it in the center of the cabin. Do this before attaching the roof (the roof is made of sheets).
    • Suitable items to use are a long cardboard shipping tube or a broomstick that you clamp between some heavy objects.
    • This works better if you have blankets on the floor instead of a mattress.
  6. Ready! Have fun with your cabin!

Method 2 of 4: Using a sofa and a table

  1. Make sure you have a large, open space at your disposal. Make enough space for your cabin.
  2. Set up a sofa. A loveseat generally works best, and a sofa like Ikea's Solsta is the best option.
  3. Set up a table. You can use a regular dining table of any size, but a square table with four seats often works best. Set the table about three feet from the front of the sofa so that the long sides are parallel.
  4. Remove the cushions from the couch. Place the seat cushions on the floor, under or between the sofa and the table. If you can take the back cushions off the couch too, do this.
  5. Make a roof for your cabin. Take a large sheet (preferably a double bed) and place it with one of the long sides over the back of the sofa. Secure the sheet with pegs. Place the rest of the sheet over the table. Place some heavy objects on the table so that the sheet stays in place. Hang more sheets to seal the sides of your cabin and cover the front of the table. Place heavy objects on top of this too, so that the sheets stay in place.
  6. Ready! Have fun with your cabin! The side of the table farthest from the couch is the entrance to your cabin. You can lie on the floor under the sheet-covered table. You can also lie down on the sofa or use the seat as a desk or table.

Method 3 of 4: Using cardboard boxes

  1. Make sure you have a large, open space at your disposal. Make enough space for your cabin.
  2. Collect some cardboard boxes. The bigger the boxes are, the better. You can get them for free by asking for them at grocery stores, furniture stores, or hardware stores. Moving boxes are also suitable. It may take a few weeks before you have enough boxes.
  3. Take the boxes apart. Ask an adult to help you take some of the boxes apart and flatten them. You make your hut from both flat boxes and boxes that are still assembled.
  4. Make the walls. You can stack the boxes that are still in each other to create walls and other structures. Use the flat boxes for the floor and roof of your cabin. If you have been able to find very large boxes, you can make separate rooms of them in your cabin.
  5. Tie the boxes together. You can use glue, a staple gun, rope and weights or heavy objects to attach all the parts of your cabin together. You can know how to do this yourself. Do ask an adult for help.
  6. Ready! Have fun with your cabin! A cardboard box hut is so much fun because you can make it look like a real house with windows and doors. You can even draw on the walls!

Method 4 of 4: Improving the cabin

  1. Add slightly. You can place lights or lamps in your cabin, but be careful not to let them get too hot. Christmas lights work very well. Ask your parents for help and make sure there is an outlet nearby so that you can easily hang the lights.
  2. Make drawings. You can decorate your cabin with art by making drawings for the walls or by drawing on the walls themselves if you have made a hut from cardboard boxes.
  3. Make sure you have something to do in your cabin. Build your cabin right next to an electrical outlet so you can watch TV or use the computer in your cabin. A cabin made of a sofa and table is well suited for this. You can put the television on the couch and then lie down in front of it.
  4. Invite your friends. Cabins are always more fun when you play in them with friends. Ask your friends to help you build a cabin and then relax in your cabin. Brothers and sisters can also help you well.

Tips

  • Ask your parents and siblings for help!

Warnings

  • If you bring food or candy into your cabin, make sure you don't crumble or mess. Your parents will get angry or may not care at all.
  • Make sure you don't spill any drinks in your cabin. Soda or other colored drinks can make stubborn stains and your parents will get angry with you.
