Balloons are a great way to create a festive and happy atmosphere. Foil balloons are balloons made of several thin layers of metal that cover a layer of nylon. These balloons are therefore less porous than regular latex balloons and also remain full of air for much longer. You can easily inflate foil balloons with a straw and some lung power or a balloon pump. Simply insert the straw or nozzle of the balloon pump into the balloon and inflate it with air.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Manually inflating a balloon

  1. Locate the valve on the outside of the balloon. All foil balloons have a small valve about 3-5 centimeters in size for easy inflating. The valve is usually located somewhere at the bottom of the outside of the balloon and is secured with 2-3 layers of plastic.
    • You can find the valve roughly where you tie a string to an ordinary balloon.
  2. Remove the nozzle of the pump from the balloon and squeeze the balloon. When the balloon is almost completely filled with air, gently pull the nozzle of the pump out of the balloon and squeeze the valve with your hand. The valve will then close automatically.
    • The inside of the valve is covered with a self-adhesive layer.

Method 3 of 3: Fill a balloon with helium

  1. Insert the spout of the helium tank into the valve of the balloon. Wrap the opening of the balloon around the nozzle of the helium tank so that the nozzle is approximately 3-5 centimeters into the balloon. This is the valve of the balloon.
    • Hold the valve firmly while you fill the balloon.
  2. Push the nozzle of the tank to gently inflate the balloon. To blow air into the balloon, simply push the nozzle down slightly while holding the valve. You will notice that the balloon fills with air. Keep pushing the nozzle until the balloon is completely inflated.
    • Hold the valve firmly as air can flow out of the balloon quite quickly.
  3. When inflated, remove the nozzle from the balloon. Your balloon is full of air when the center feels firm, but there are still some wrinkles in the outer rim. Now you just remove the valve around the spout. As you do this, the valve will seal itself using the adhesive strip on the inside of the balloon.
  4. Enjoy the balloon for 3-7 days. Helium is an easy way to inflate foil balloons, but the balloons last a lot less than filling them with regular air.
    • You can tie a ribbon around your balloon to tie it up for a birthday party, a retirement party, or a wedding.

Necessities

Manually inflating a balloon

  • Foil balloon
  • Drinking straw
  • Lung force

Using a balloon pump

  • Foil balloon
  • Balloon pump

Filling a balloon with helium

  • Foil balloon
  • Helium tank

Tips

  • If there are small holes in the top of the balloon, you can pull a string through them to secure it.

Warnings

  • Foil balloons are not biodegradable as they are made from synthetic materials.
