In Pokemon Red and Blue, the player has the option to choose Bulbasaur to start with. In Pokemon Yellow, however, Pikachu is your only option. But don't worry, you will have the chance to get Bulbasaur later in the game. Read this guide to learn how!

To step

1. Go to Cerulean. First, go to Cerulean. This is the first place you will come after traveling through Mt. Moon and the gym leader is Misty.
   
   
2. Make sure you have room for Bulbasaur. Make sure you have an empty spot on your team. If not, put a Pokemon in Cerulean's Pokemon Center.
   
   
3. Make Pikachu happy. Talk to Pikachu by turning towards him and clicking "A". A heart will rise above his head if you take good care of him. If that doesn't work, there are a few more simple ways to make him happy.
   
   
   • Use items at Pikachu, such as health potions, after Pikachu is fully healed. It may take a few times to make him happy.
   • Help Pikachu pass a level. This also makes him happy.
   • Challenge a gym leader, that makes Pikachu happy too.
4. Go to Melanie's house. Now go to the house next to the Pokemon Center. You see Melanie and Bulbasaur. Go talk to her and she'll say she takes care of Pokemon.
   
   
5. Take Bulbasaur. She will know that you have taken good care of Pikachu and will ask if you want the Bulbasaur. Say yes and she will give you Bulbasaur.
   
   

Tips

• If after five tries, Pikachu is still not happy, try five more times, and so on, and eventually he will be happy.
• Another way to get Bulbasaur is to trade red, blue, or yellow with Pokemon.
• You can buy drinks at a PokeMart.
