Managing etiquette can be difficult, even for people who are constantly texting! If you want to end a chat or leave a message for a group of people without sounding rude, there are several different options you can use. If you politely excuse yourself, arrange to talk later, or say that you are too busy to carry on the conversation at the moment, you can end the conversation without hurting anyone's feelings.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: End the conversation politely

  1. 1 Apologize for saying that you are about to do something. After exchanging a few messages with the person, apologize by saying something like, “I'm going to workout, I want to work out for an hour. It was nice to chat!" This will let the other person know that you will most likely not reply to their messages for a while.
    • Be sure to tailor your answers to the person you are communicating with. If you are texting with a coworker, you might say something like, “I'm going to make dinner. See you at work Monday! "
  2. 2 Explain why you cannot speak right now. Sometimes you can just end the conversation by saying, "I'm at work now, I'll contact you later!" Most people will be understanding if you have a good reason to end the conversation.
    • For example, if you are at home, you might say, "Someone is ringing the doorbell, we'll talk later!"
    • If you are going to get into the car, you can send a short message: "I'll write later, behind the wheel!"
    • Don't lie about your occupation or the reason why you can't speak. The interlocutor will most likely understand that you are lying, and, perhaps, it will upset him.
  3. 3 Say you go to bed if it's too late. Most people will understand if you need to end a conversation in order to go to bed. As soon as you feel fatigue impending, tell the other person that you are going to bed. Try not to fall asleep while talking, as this can seem rude!
    • For example, you might say something like, “I have to go to the side. Let's talk tomorrow! ”- if you know you can chat next time.
    • If you don't have much contact with the person, you might say something like, “I really want to sleep. Let's talk later this week! ”And talk on the phone or even via video in the next few days.
  4. 4 If applicable, respond with one or two emoticons. When chatting with someone you often see live, responding with emoticons is a great way to pause the conversation until you meet. Be sure to make sure the emoji is an appropriate response to its approval before clicking Submit!
    • For example, if your roommate writes to you, “I’ll bring pizza for dinner!” You can reply with a heart-in-eye emoji or with a thumbs up to tell him that you have seen the message and are looking forward to it.
    • If a friend or family member writes, “Do you have time?" Or, "Can you talk later?"
    • This is a great way to end a conversation before it starts. Since you are not responding with words, the other person is less likely to decide to continue the conversation.
  5. 5 Wait a little while answering if you have nothing to say. If you have been texting for a while and you have nothing to say, just postpone your reply. Try to come up with something within 15-30 minutes so that you don't feel like you are ignoring the message.
    • If you can't think of anything, end the conversation by agreeing to chat later or referring to being busy.
    • Don't feel obligated to immediately respond to messages you receive. If you have nothing to say, sometimes it’s better to just wait until you’ve come up with something important or funny to engage in the conversation.

Method 2 of 3: End the conversation with your loved one

  1. 1 End the conversation on a flirty note with a cute comment or emoticon. When the time comes to end the conversation with your loved one, act lightly and naturally! Use emojis such as a kiss or an emoji with hearts in your eyes and let the person know what you think of them, even if you can't dialogue.
    • Before you go to bed, say something like, “Good night. I can't wait to talk to you tomorrow! Kisses "- or:" Sweet dreams! "
    • If you want to start another conversation when you are free to talk, try saying something like: “I have to go now, but what do you think of Timati's new album? Let's discuss later! "
  2. 2 Arrange to speak later in person or over the phone. If you’re talking to someone in your everyday social circle but haven’t been able to answer them for a while, arrange to chat later. Share your specific plans so that he knows when to expect to hear from you.
    • For example, if you are at school, you might say to your partner in the morning, “I have all day of class today, but I will finish at 5:30 pm. Do you want to meet at 18:00 for dinner? "
  3. 3 Thank him for a good time if you were out on a date. Waiting for a guy to write after a date is already the last century. If you've texted after a date, end the conversation by thanking him for a great evening and asking him to repeat it.
    • For example, you might say something like, “Thank you so much for such a fun evening! Shall we schedule another one soon? "
    • If you are confident that a person likes you, you can be more bold. Try saying something like, "I hope I dream about you today!"
  4. 4 End the conversation spontaneously if you are not interested in the person. Rewriting with a fan / female fan can be tricky. Try to respond in a friendly but straightforward manner. If you do not want to communicate with a person, let him know that he is not interesting to you and end the conversation.
    • For example, if he calls you somewhere, you might say something like, "You're a good person, but I'm just not interested in a romantic relationship with you."
    • Do not offer to continue the conversation and do not say "we'll talk later" so as not to mislead the interlocutor.
    • If you feel in danger after rejecting someone, tell a trusted person about it. Contact law enforcement as soon as possible if someone sends you threats or behaves strangely.

Method 3 of 3: Leave group chat

  1. 1 Log out of the group chat. Before leaving the conversation abruptly, send a message to notify other participants that you are leaving. There is no need to explain the reason, just if you indicate your departure, you will not be added again to this or future group chats.
    • You could say something like, “Hi, I'm going to quit this group. There are so many messages that it slows down my phone! "
  2. 2 Open the tab with messages in the application where you are chatting. Scroll through the list of messages until you find the group conversation you want to leave.
    • Look for the names of the people in the group or the name of the group. Perhaps the creator of the chat gave it a name based on the content.
    • If you cannot find the message thread you are looking for, use the search function by typing in the name of someone from the correspondence or keywords.
  3. 3 Click on group chat. Depending on the application you are using, in one of the top corners or on the top bar you will find a tab with information about the group's membership, photos, links, and more.
    • If you cannot find the information tab, try clicking on the group photo.
  4. 4 Select Leave Conversation from the information menu. The list of participants, photos and various functions of the chat should include a button or tab "Leave the conversation". Click on it and it's done.
    • You may receive a notification asking if you really want to leave the conversation. Click Yes or Confirm.
  5. 5 Turn on Do Not Disturb mode to stay in the group but not receive notifications. Do Not Disturb turns off notifications from group messages, but allows you to view and reply to messages in your spare time. This function can be found in the information menu or on the bottom panel.
    • If you want to receive chat notifications again, just reset the settings to their original position.
    • This will disable notifications from only one particular chat. If you have an iPhone and don't want to receive notifications at all, you can turn on the general Do Not Disturb mode.

Tips

  • Always re-read your messages before sending them, especially if you are communicating with someone important, such as your boss. This way you can save yourself from embarrassing typos!
  • Don't feel obligated to reply to every message you receive. In general, only reply to a message when it requires an immediate response. Otherwise, it's okay to postpone the answer.
