Mango is a sweet tropical fruit. It tastes best freshly sliced in fruit salads, cocktails, or as a frozen snack. Like papaya, mango is also often used as a base for breakfast. Freezing mangoes is the best method for preserving large quantities.
Steps
1 Choose ripe mangoes to use. Press lightly to make sure the fruit is firm. Use feel, not color, to check ripeness.
2 Prepare the mango. Use a knife to remove the rind from the fruit. Cut the mango into slices.
Method 1 of 2: Raw Cubes
1 Place the pieces on the sheet. Make sure the pieces are not touching each other, as it is very difficult to separate frozen mangoes.
- It is very convenient if the sheet has edges or a curved part at the edges so that the pieces do not fall off. You can use a shallow saucepan as a substitute.
2 Place the leaf in the freezer on a flat surface. Leave the fruit on for 3-5 hours, depending on the thickness of the pieces.
3 Add frozen mangoes to the freezer bag. Mark the appropriate date on the package.
4 Frozen mangoes can be stored for up to 10 months.
Method 2 of 2: Cubes in Plain Syrup
1 Combine a glass of sugar and two glasses of water in a medium saucepan.
2 Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly and letting the sugar dissolve.
3 Let the mixture cool completely.
4 Place the mango pieces in freezer containers. Mark the appropriate date on the container.
5 Pour the simple syrup over the mango pieces. Leave about 2.5 cm space for expansion.
6 Store frozen mangoes for up to 12 months.
Tips
- When defrosting, like any fruit, mangoes can change their texture. It is best to use frozen fruit in smoothies instead of recipes that require fresh ingredients.
- Mango syrup is best used in sauces.
