• What do you need

1 For any given option, you will have to start with a new row. Try not to start in the middle. This will prevent the ugly knot from being prominently displayed, such as in the center of your scarf.

Method 1 of 2: Option One

1. 1 Cut the old thread, leaving about 6 inches (15 cm) at the end.
2. 2 With your left hand, hold your end of the old thread and 6 inches (15 cm) of the new thread.
3. 3 Start knitting with a new thread. The first stitch will be slightly loose, but this can be corrected later.
4. 4 Tie about five stitches together, then stop and use a small knot to tie the ends of the threads together.
5. 5 Continue knitting to the end of the row.

Method 2 of 2: Option Two

1. 1 To change the thread in a different way, make a slip knot on the new thread and thread the old thread through it.
2. 2 Thread the new thread to the base of the first stitch and tighten the knot. You are now ready to continue knitting with a new ball of yarn.
3. 3 Weave the ends of the threads. When you are done knitting, you will have a couple of ends of the threads sticking out. To hide them, you need to weave them. Take a needle and thread through the eye of the needle. Now, using a needle, weave the thread into your knitted item.
4. 4 Cut the thread closer to the base to make everything look nice and tidy.

Tips

• Save small pieces of the cut thread just in case. When repairing your product, these pieces will match the color perfectly. It's a good idea to label these pieces so that you always know which piece they will fit on.
