This article will show you how to close individual browser tabs on your mobile device and computer.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On a mobile device

1. 1 Open your browser. Click on the browser icon. Individual tabs can be closed in Chrome and Firefox (iOS and Android), and Safari (iOS).
2. 2 Click on the Tabs icon. A list of open tabs will be displayed on the screen. The appearance and location of this icon depends on the browser:
   • Chrome and Firefox - click on the square with a number in the upper right corner of the screen.
   • Safari - click on the two intersecting squares in the lower right part of the screen.
3. 3 Find the tab you want to close. Scroll through the list of open tabs and find the one you want to close.
4. 4 Click on X. You will find this button in the upper left corner of the tab you want to close. The tab will close.
   • You can also close a tab by swiping from right to left on it.

Method 2 of 2: On a computer

1. 1 Click the icon X on the tab you want to close. You will find an “X” on the right side of the tab; clicking on it will immediately close the tab.
   • In Safari, the X will not appear until you hover over a tab.
   • If there is an ongoing process in the tab (for example, you are creating an email inbox), you may need to confirm the decision to close the tab.
2. 2 Close tabs quickly. Click on Ctrl+W (Windows) or ⌘ Command+W (Mac OS X) to close the active tab.
   • Make sure you are in the tab you want to close.
3. 3 Close all browser tabs. Click the button X in the upper right corner of the browser (Windows) or click the red circle in the upper left corner of the browser (Mac OS X). This will close the browser and thus all tabs.
   • You may have to confirm that you want to close all tabs by clicking something like "Yes, close all tabs" in the prompt window.

Tips

• Most browsers have a "Recover Closed Tab" button; it is in a drop-down menu that can be opened by right-clicking on the tab.
• Right-click on a tab to open its advanced options.

Warnings

• If you close the tab during an ongoing process (for example, creating an e-mail box), it will result in the loss of the changes made.
