Have you ever received harassing emails that you wish you never saw? Do you constantly receive news from a company that you are not interested in? Hotmail (now Outlook.com) allows you to easily block specific email addresses or an entire domain. See Step 1 to learn.

Steps

  1. 1 Log into Hotmail. Hotmail recently switched to Outlook, but your Hotmail address will work fine as well. When you sign in with your Hotmail address, you will be redirected to your Outlook inbox.
  2. 2 Open Mail Settings. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the window, next to your name. A menu will open that allows you to change the color scheme and other basic options. Click on the "Other Mail Settings" link in the menu.
  3. 3 Click on Safe & Blocked Senders. It can be found in the second column under the heading "Preventing Spam". If you click on this option, a list of three options will open.
  4. 4 Click on “Blocked Senders”. A form will open that allows you to add the email addresses that you want to block.Any email received from this address will be automatically deleted, so make sure you really want to block this address.
  5. 5 Add addresses to the list. You can enter a specific email address ([email protected]) or your entire domain (example.com). If you block a domain, then any message received from that domain will be blocked. You won't be able to block some of the most popular domains like Gmail, Yahoo, etc.
  6. 6 Report spam. Blocking addresses that send you spam rarely results in less spam. This is due to the fact that spam senders often change their addresses and domains, so you will be wasting your time blocking them. Instead, you can take action to combat spam.
