Tobacco filling is a ritual that involves packing and smoking tobacco through a cigarette or pipe. Some say that if you clog the tobacco, it will stay fresh longer, others say that the aftertaste from cigarettes lasts longer, but one thing is clear to clog the tobacco, it is more of a habit. Tobacco plugging helps to hold the loosened tobacco together, which can delaminate over time, both in the can and in the cigarette paper. Whichever method you use to clog the tobacco is described below. For more details, see step 1.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Stuffing Smokeless Tobacco Can

  1. 1 Open the jar first to check freshness. Most non-smoking tobacco is packaged in hockey puck-shaped cans to keep the product looking good and to keep it moist and flavorful. For various reasons, those who chew tobacco or put it behind their lips "tamp" the tobacco on one side of the can. But the main reason is that the tobacco looks good and it is easier to pinch off for yourself.
    • Tamping smokeless tobacco does not make it "fresher" in any way, and therefore, there is nothing if you do not want to tamp it. Tamping the tobacco is mostly a ritual, although it helps you keep track of how much tobacco you have left in the jar.
  2. 2 Place the jar between your thumb and middle finger. Close the can and use your thumb to push the center of the bottom of the can, and with your middle finger, push the center of the lid of the can. Unroll the jar so that it is perpendicular to the ground.
  3. 3 Wave the can down quickly. Hold the jar loosely but firmly enough not to drop it. With your index finger, grasp the jar as if you are about to throw it like a stone, a toad in the water. Without straining your index finger, quickly shake the can up and down.
    • Start at shoulder height and bring the can down with a quick jerk. With each jerk like this, your index finger will be nice to slap on the jar. Shake several times to tamp well.
    • Some of those who chew tobacco may tamp a little differently. They will shake the can back and forth at head level instead of downward. Others will brush the can away from themselves as if throwing a frisbee. Try several ways to find out which one suits you best.
  4. 4 Open the jar. Loose tobacco should now be tightly packed on one side of the can. Now it will be easy for you to collect tobacco, no matter how little is left in the jar. You are now ready to take your tobacco and enjoy.

Method 2 of 3: Stuffing Cigarettes

  1. 1 Tamp the cigarettes before opening the pack. When you buy a pack of cigarettes, of any brand, the pack has already been lying on its side on the shelf for a long time and the tobacco in the paper has already scattered a little. Most smokers tamp the tobacco closer to the filter while the cigarettes are tightly packed in the packet. This will make them a little easier to light up and pull out.
    • It is not necessary to tamp the cigarettes, but the truth is that cigarettes that have not been tamped often drop tobacco or the smoking part falls off when the ashes are knocked down.
    • It is also true that the tobacco will tamp a little back into the cigarette and leave a piece of empty paper tube at the end, which will be easier to light than if the cigarette was full of tobacco.
  2. 2 Take the pack in your hands and turn it upside down. Take the top of the pack with your strong hand and hold it between your thumb and middle finger, unfold the pack upside down to the floor. To prevent the tutu from slipping out, hold it on top with your index finger. Raise your other hand up and open your palm, hold it so that it looks up.
    • From the very beginning, you do not need to remove the plastic wrap from the pack and it will be better if you do not remove it. This way, you won't have to worry about the pack opening while you tamp.
    • By the same principle, cigarettes in soft and hard packaging, cigarettes with and without a filter are packed. It will also be helpful to keep the cigarettes in a soft package carefully, as a thin piece of paper separates your fingers and cigarettes.
  3. 3 Slap the top of the pack against your palm. To tamp the cigarettes, lower the top of the pack down and slap the pack firmly against your open palm. Hold the pack loose enough not to wrinkle it with your palm, just make sure that the pack hits your palm when you swing it.
    • Lift the pack up again and repeat the same thing about 10 times, depending on how tightly tamped cigarettes you like. Further tamping will push the tobacco further down the paper, leaving more empty space at the tip of the cigarette and making the tobacco thicker. This will make it easier to light the cigarette.
  4. 4 Open the pack of cigarettes and take out one. If you don't like how far the tobacco has gone, you can put the cigarette back in the pack and tamp it down a few more times. If you've tamped down too hard, you can put the cigarette back in and bang the cigarette in the other direction several times if you like.

Method 3 of 3: Clogging the pipe

  1. 1 Only plug in a clean, well-groomed pipe. Before clogging the tube, it must cool completely, and a pipe brush must be run through the tube several times. It's okay and even good if the tube cup is dark with a bloom from ash. This is called "soot", thanks to which the tobacco smolders in a special way.
    • Never block a pipe immediately after cleaning it. The pipe will likely contain condensation, which will cause hot, strong smoke that does not taste good.
  2. 2 Fill the tube cup halfway with the tobacco of your choice. The best and easiest way to clog a pipe is to pour in a full cup of tobacco, and then, using a tamper — a small flat-tipped metal rod made specifically for the job — tamp the tobacco until it’s half the cup.
    • If you don't have a tamper, you can use your thumb or the blunt end of a lighter to do this. Having a tamper is good, but not necessary.
  3. 3 Add a few more pinches of tobacco to fill the tube cup. Fill the cup completely again and press the tobacco back down to the middle of the cup. Depending on the tobacco and its elasticity, the pipe should be hammered about 3/4 full. If you have a large cup, you can add more tobacco, but this will most likely be enough to get you started.
  4. 4 Light the tobacco and inhale gently. After you have clogged the pipe, everything is ready, you can light a cigarette. To prevent the pipe from overheating or to prevent the tobacco from scattering rhythmically, light it gently.
  5. 5 If your pipe runs out frequently, ask a tobacco professional to show you how to do this. Plugging the pipe is an art. It takes practice to master it. But this is not as difficult as it might seem. You don't need expensive gadgets or expensive tobacco to clog your pipe well. If your pipe is constantly running out, you may have something with the stem of your pipe, or you may simply be clogging the tobacco too weakly. Experiment a bit and if you have problems, see a tobacco specialist.

Tips

  • If you just want to tamp the tobacco in a can, place it sideways and just bump it several times against something, such as a leg, fist, or even a sofa.
  • If you don't seem to be able to tamp the tobacco, just put the can down and do your best to squeeze your index and thumb ... after trying a few times, try again with the can in your hands.
  • When you get to the point of chewing tobacco, you can simply remove the lid, and press the lid on the tobacco until it is firmly compacted.
  • Be sure to crush and roll the tobacco, compacting it in this way. It takes practice to learn this, but you end up with dense pinches of tobacco.

Warnings

  • Tobacco can cause periodontitis.
  • Chewing tobacco can cause mouth and throat cancer.
