If your child or pet has an "accident" on a leather couch, the consequences will be extremely difficult to clean up. Luckily for you, leave-in stains can still be avoided. All you need to do is act quickly and get the right cleaning products to restore the leather item to its original appearance.

Part 1 of 2: Prepare your skin for cleaning

1. 1 Soak up the urine stain. A urine stain is best removed when it is still wet. Use paper towels to soak up any urine that has collected on the leather surface. Do not try to wipe the urine off with towels, as this will only increase the stain. Instead, blot and dip paper towels in a puddle of urine.
   • To do this, you may need a lot of paper towels.
2. 2 Remove the packing. If the urine stain is on the leather cushion, remove the padding. There is usually a fastener on the side or bottom edge of the pillow that can be opened to reveal the padding. Move the packing aside. You will then clean it with an enzymatic cleaner.
   • Taking out the pad is very important because even if you spot the stain right away, urine can still seep into it. If the urine is absorbed into the padding, the smell will remain even after you clean the leather surface.
   • If the padding cannot be reached from under the leather, contact a professional furniture company to see if they can help you.
3. 3 Check the cleaning agent. It is highly recommended to use a special skin cleaner to remove urine from leather surfaces. These cleaning products can be found at pet stores, drugstores, or large supermarkets. Before applying the cleaner to the stain, test it on an inconspicuous area of ​​the sofa.
   • A good example of a urine stain cleaner is Nature's Miracle, which can be found at pet stores.
   • Test the cleaner in a small area at the back or bottom of the sofa. If the cleanser is bad for your skin, you save yourself from damaging the entire visible area of ​​the urine stain.

Part 2 of 2: Cleaning the leather

1. 1 Clean the leather surface. Take a rag, lightly dampen it with your preferred cleaner, and wipe off the stain. Gently wipe the stain with a cloth dampened with cleaner. Above all, do not rub your skin. Be sure to wipe the entire surface of the stain, from edge to edge, from seam to seam.
   • By cleaning only a specific area, you can thereby leave a stain on the skin. Better to wet and wipe the entire pillow, not just the stained area.
   • If you want to make your own cleaning solution, mix together 1 liter of hydrogen peroxide, 100 grams of baking soda, and 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid. Take a bowl and stir everything in it gently. Soak a rag in this solution and wring it out.
2. 2 Wash the padding. Since there is a possibility that the pad is soaked in urine, you will need to use an enzymatic cleaner to remove it and dispel the strong odor of the chemical. As with any garment, hand wash your padding in a large sink or bathtub. Apply an enzymatic cleaner to the padding, then rub the cleaner into the urine-soaked area. Squeeze out the packing and rinse it under clean running water. Do this several times to accurately remove the urine stain and odor.
   • Take the padding outside to dry. If the padding dries in the sun, it will help to remove the urine odor even better.
3. 3 Return the padding to the pillow. When the padding and cover are completely dry, insert the padding back into the leather cushion. Try to position it exactly the same way as it was before and close the clasp.
4. 4 Apply skin conditioner. When the leather is completely dry, apply a leather conditioner to the leather surface. Apply some conditioner to a soft cloth and wipe the entire surface of the pillow with it. Remember to rub all sides of the leather cushion.
   • The conditioner will keep the skin soft and smooth by replenishing all the natural oils that the cleaning product may have removed from its surface.
