A tiled floor is a sustainable option for the kitchen, bathroom and other parts of the house that occasionally get wet. By properly maintaining and cleaning your tile floor, it can look like new for years to come. Learn how to clean a tile floor easily and thoroughly, as well as how to clean the joints between the tiles. You can use these methods on ceramic tiles and counterfeit tile floors. However, don't clean the floors too often or use too much soap, as this can cause streaks on your tiles and leave a layer of soap on your floor.

Method 1 of 3: Easy cleaning of a tiled floor

1. Use bleach to remove more stubborn stains. If you can't get the floor clean with natural remedies, try a bleach mix. Mix 3 parts bleach with 1 part water if your grout is white. You can clean colored grout with just water. Do not use bleach on colored grout as this can remove the color. Use a toothbrush or the edge of a sponge to clean the joints with the mixture. Afterwards, rinse the floor with warm water to remove any bleach residue.
   • Be careful not to get the bleach mixture on the tiles.
   • When using bleach, wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.
   • When the floor is completely dry, carefully apply a coat of sealant to the tile joints to prevent them from getting dirty again.
   • If you'd rather not use bleach, you may be able to find a specialty grout cleaner in the store that is stronger than a natural cleaner. However, read the packaging to make sure the product does not contain bleach.

Tips

• By cleaning the tile floor by hand and always treating and drying part of it, it often becomes better clean than when you mop it.
• Mop your bathroom once a week and your kitchen twice a week with a wet mop to keep your tile floor in good condition.
• You can buy a grout brush or other abrasive tool at the hardware store that is specifically designed to clean the grout between the tiles of a tile floor. You may need to touch up the grout depending on how much of the grout has been sanded away.
