This article will show you how to sign out of your Gmail account. You can do this on the Gmail website and the Gmail app for iPhone and iPad. On an Android device, you can only sign out of a Gmail account if that account was not used to set up the device; however, to delete the account with which the device was configured, you need to do a factory reset.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: On the computer

  1. 1 Open your Gmail inbox. Go to https://www.gmail.com/. Your Gmail inbox will open.
  2. 2 Click on your profile icon. It looks like a circle and is in the upper-right side of the page. A dropdown menu will open.
    • If you do not have a profile picture, this icon will appear as the first letter of your name on a colored background.
  3. 3 Click on Go out. It's in the lower-right corner of the drop-down menu. This will sign out of your Gmail account (and any other Gmail accounts on your computer) and go to the Select an Account page.
  4. 4 Click on Delete. This link is at the bottom of the page.
  5. 5 Click on X next to the account. This button will appear next to the account you want to remove from your browser's list of saved accounts.
  6. 6 Click on Yes, deletewhen prompted. This will remove the account from the list of saved accounts in your browser. To sign in to Gmail again, enter your email address and password.

Method 2 of 3: On iPhone

  1. 1 Open the Gmail app. Its icon looks like a red letter "M" on a white background. Your mailbox will open.
  2. 2 Click on . It's in the upper-left corner of the screen. A pop-up menu will open.
  3. 3 Click the icon . It's above the top-right corner of the Inbox section of the menu. A dropdown menu will open.
  4. 4 Click on Account management. You will find this option under the last account in the menu.
  5. 5 Click on Change. It's in the upper right corner of the screen.
  6. 6 Click on Delete. You will find this button next to the account you want to sign out of.
  7. 7 Click on Deletewhen prompted. This will delete your account and return to the previously signed in account (if any) or to the account login screen.
  8. 8 Click on Ready. It's in the upper-left corner of the screen. Your account has been removed from the Gmail app.

Method 3 of 3: On an Android device

  1. 1 Open the Settings app . Click on the gear icon or multiple sliders on the Home screen or in the App Drawer.
  2. 2 Go to the "Accounts" section. You will find it at the top of the screen.
    • On your Samsung Galaxy phone, you may need to tap Accounts.
  3. 3 Click on Google. The Google Accounts section will open.
  4. 4 Select an account. Click on the account you want to sign out of.
    • You cannot sign out of the Google account that was used to set up your Android device.
  5. 5 Click the icon . It's in the upper right corner of the screen. A dropdown menu will open.
  6. 6 Click on Delete your account. This will remove the Google account from the Android device and from any apps that use it, including Gmail.
