FOSE (Fallout Script Extender) is an application for the PC version of Fallout 3. It allows gamers to create and edit mods for the game that change game code by adding or modifying game features. FOSE can be used on computers with Fallout 3 installed.

Steps

1. 1 Install Fallout 3 and run the game at least once. This is necessary in order to create the required files in the Fallout 3 folder. Do not forget to press the "Play" button to start the gameplay.
   • FOSE does not work with Direct2Drive or the DVD version (1.0.0.12) of Fallout 3. If you have the DVD version of the game installed, update it to the latest version of Fallout 3 using the official patch 1.7. If you are using the Direct2Drive version, please install a different version to be able to use FOSE.
   • If you have two monitors, disable one of them before playing Fallout 3. Click ⊞ Win+P and select "Computer Monitor Only".
2. 2 Consider installing the unofficial 1.8 patch. This is a fan-made patch that fixes hundreds of bugs that can cause problems with Fallout 3. You can download the patch from the website NexusMods.com
3. 3 Download FOSE. This can be done for free on the developer's site of this application: fose.silverlock.org/... The archive will be downloaded in 7z format.
4. 4 Download and install 7-Zip. This is a free archiver that is required to unpack and extract FOSE files. You can download 7-Zip from the website 7-zip.org.
5. 5 Unpack the archive. After installing 7-Zip, double click on the downloaded FOSE archive. Extract the files to the current folder so you can quickly find them.
6. 6 Open the folder with Fallout 3. You will find it in one of the following locations:
   • C: Program Files Bethesda Softworks Fallout 3
   • C: Program Files (x86) Steam steamapps common Fallout 3 GOTY
7. 7 Copy the files extracted from the downloaded FOSE archive to the Fallout 3 folder. Confirm that you want to overwrite files with the same name.
8. 8 Right-click the Fose-loader.exe file and select Create Shortcut. Drag this shortcut to your desktop. This shortcut will launch the Fallout 3 game.
9. 9 Install a mod manager. Your Fallout 3 game is now set up to work with mods, so download and install a mod manager to easily manage all the mods you plan to install. The two most popular mod managers are Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) and Nexus Mod Manager. They can be downloaded from the site NexusMods.com

Tips

• While mods are a great way to improve your game, installing them can damage your game files and game save files.
