Tips

  • Many font files downloaded from the Internet can be zipped to reduce file size and speed up downloads. If you downloaded the font in .zip format, you can unzip it by double-clicking on the file and following the further instructions.
  • You can drag OpenType, TrueType, Type 1, font types from elsewhere to the Fonts folder. This method will only work if the font is not already in the Fonts folder.
  • To add fonts from network storage without using up space on your hard drive, uncheck the "Allow installation of fonts using shortcuts" checkbox. This method will only work if you install OpenType, or TrueType, or other bitmap fonts using the Install New Font option from the File menu.
  • When installing new fonts, remember that each font will only work on the PC on which you installed it. If you share Office documents with other people, or intend to use the documents on another PC, the fonts that you installed on your computer may not display on the other. Text written in an unknown font will be converted to Times New Roman, or standard font.
  • To make sure fonts are visible on other computers, if you are using a TrueType font in Word or PowerPoint®, you can customize the font to preserve the characters in your document. Font settings can significantly increase the size of your document and may not work in some fonts, but this is a good way when you need to display the document on other computers that do not have the required fonts.
