You are probably familiar with wearing eyeliner and mascara. Many people get into a familiar routine, but don't know how to do something different or make their eyes more intense. If you want to try a simple technique that really makes your eyes pop, try applying eyeliner to your waterline. This will create a more dramatic look that can make even the oldest make-up routine fresh again.

Part 1 of 2: Apply eyeliner to your waterline

1. Apply a concealer. Take a little bit of the concealer you usually use and dab a little just below your eye line with your fingertips. The eyeliner is helped to stay in place longer when you apply concealer.
   • Always wash your face before applying, and make sure to wash and remove your makeup at the end of the day. This will keep your skin clear and healthy.
2. Position your head. Look directly in the mirror and look down to make the application easier. Do not change your look while doing this. Use your fingertips and gently pull down your eyelid.
   • Some people find it easy to apply eyeliner to the waterline when they squint their eyes slightly.
3. Choose the right eyeliner. You will probably want to use a sharp eyeliner pencil as it will give you a better control of the eyeliner. You can also use an eyeliner gel and brush if you feel comfortable applying eyeliner with a brush. If you choose a pencil, choose one that is made to apply along the waterline. Kohl pencils are a great choice for this.
   • Because the eyeliner is directly against your eye, choose a waterproof eyeliner to make it last longer. Just avoid choosing liquid eyeliners because they are too wet to apply accurately.
   • You can choose any eyeliner color. Black eyeliner is a great choice for daring evening looks, while white or or beige eyeliners can open your eyes so they look bigger and brighter.
4. Use a sharpened eyeliner pencil. If you are using a pencil instead of gel, always sharpen the pencil before each use. This ensures that the tip is fresh and that it will not introduce bacteria to your eye, which could lead to infection. Keep everything that comes into contact with your eye completely clean. For example, if you're using a cotton ball, make sure you always use a new one from the package.
   • Also, never share eyeliner or eye makeup with others to further reduce your risk of infection. You should also replace your eyeliner pencils every two years.
5. Curl your lashes. Your eyeliner will stay in place longer if you take the time to curl your lashes before applying the eyeliner. This way, your eyelashes don't get caught in the makeup.
   • This can be especially helpful if your lashes naturally go straight down.

• Eyeliner pencils that are too sharp can hurt your eye. Be careful when using a sharp eyeliner pencil on your eye.
