This article describes the process of deleting a Google account, which will delete all user data, and the process of deleting a Gmail account, which deletes only the mailbox and all information stored in it.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Deleting a Google Account

1. 1 In a web browser, open the page myaccount.google.com. You can only delete your Google Account using a web browser.
2. 2 Click Sign In (if you are not already signed in). This button is in the upper right corner of the screen. If you are already signed in, double check that you have done so through the account you want to delete.
   • If you are logged in, a profile picture will be displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. Click on it to find out which account you signed in with. If you are logged in with a different account, click Sign Out from the menu and then log in with the correct account.
3. 3 Sign in with the account you want to delete. Skip this step if you are already signed in with the appropriate account.
4. 4 Click Disable services and delete account. This button is located in the "Account Settings" section (on the right side of the page).
5. 5 Click Remove account and data.
6. 6 Re-enter your Google account password (if prompted). You may be prompted to sign in again.
7. 7 View the content to be removed. The services that will be blocked will also be displayed on the screen.
8. 8 Click Load Data to save custom information. You will be redirected to the Google Archiver page, where you can download the archive with the data.
9. 9 Scroll down the page and check the boxes for the two Yes options. This will confirm your decision to delete your account.
10. 10 Click Remove Account. The account will be marked for deletion, which will occur shortly after clicking the "Delete account" button. After deleting your account, you will no longer have access to all Google services and the data associated with them.
11. 11 Try to recover the deleted account. If a recording is deleted by accident, or you change your mind and want to restore it, do so within a certain (and short) period of time.
    • Open the page accounts.google.com/signin/recovery
    • Try logging in with a remote account.
    • Click "Try to recover your account".
    • Enter the last used account password.If you try to restore your account before completely deleting user data, the attempt will most likely be successful.

Method 2 of 2: Delete your Gmail inbox

1. 1 In a web browser, open the page myaccount.google.com. You can only delete your Gmail mailbox through a web browser.
2. 2 Click Sign In. This button is in the upper right corner of the screen. If you are already signed in, double check that you have done so through the Gmail account you want to delete.
   • If you are logged in, a profile picture will be displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. Click on it and then click Log Out on the menu to log in with a different account.
3. 3 Sign in with the Gmail account you want to delete. Skip this step if you are already signed in with the appropriate account.
4. 4 Click Disable services and delete account.
5. 5 Click Remove Services.
6. 6 Re-enter your Gmail password (if prompted).
7. 7 Next to the "Gmail" option, click "Delete." The icon for this button looks like a trash can.
8. 8 Enter the alternate email address associated with your Google account. This is the email address used to sign in to other Google services such as Drive or YouTube.
   • The email address will be verified, so make sure you have access to it.
9. 9 Click Send verification email.
10. 10 Open an alternate mailbox.
11. 11 Open your verification email from Google. It will appear in a few minutes.
12. 12 Click on the link in the email to confirm the new address. After verifying the new address, your Gmail account will be deleted.

Tips

• To avoid receiving spam, create a mailbox on an email service and do not include your email address on websites. Next, create another mailbox on another mail service and subscribe to online services using this email address.
• If your Android device is synced with your Gmail account, you won't be able to access the Google Play Store because the account was changed. In this case, reset your settings to their defaults to check your new account and access Google services.
• Make your email address unique when creating your Gmail account. For example, a lot of spam will come to the address [email protected], because it is a short and easily calculated address.
• When creating a Gmail account, do not use your first and last name, for example, [email protected]. Some spammers generate email addresses with random (and common) first and last names.
• If you can't figure out how to delete your account, just change your status to offline. Write something like "Account is not active" and never log in again.
• If you are using Gmail offline, you need to delete the cookies associated with Gmail offline to completely delete your account. In the Google Chrome browser, follow these steps:
  • In the address bar, enter chrome: // settings / cookies and press Enter.
  • Find the entry mail.google.com.
  • Hover over the mail.google.com entry and click the X.
• Before deleting your Gmail account, back up your emails; to do this, use the cloud backup tool.

Warnings

• Please note that user data cannot be accessed a few weeks after the account is deleted. However, Google can help you recover recently deleted addresses if you decide you need them.
