On hot summer days, infestations of fruit flies are common. If you keep a basket of fresh fruit on the kitchen table in the hope that the children will want to eat healthy, but the peaches are partially moldy, bananas become leopard-colored and you hear the buzzing of annoying insects, then fruit flies bother you. Get rid of the problem using the methods described in the article.

Fruit flies can be very annoying, but there are many ways to deal with them, and you probably already have all the necessary tools at home:

Steps

Method 1 of 3: How to make traps

1. 1 Use rotten fruit. The fruit flies must have appeared at a time when the fruit in the kitchen began to spoil.Use the remedies that made the flies appear to reassemble them in one place, but this time with a sadder ending. Place a piece of rotten fruit in a bowl and stretch a clear plastic wrap over it. Poke holes in the plastic with a toothpick and leave the bowl in the area with the flies. They will be attracted by the smell, but the fruit flies will not be able to get out of the bowl.
2. 2 Donate some wine. The aroma of wine is not only popular with people. Fruit flies flock to the wine smell as well as we do. Any open bottle of wine will become a ready-made fly trap. There should be a little wine in the bottle at the bottom (literally two fingers). Leave the bottle indoors with flies. They will be able to fly inside, but the funnel shape of the neck will not allow them to get out.
3. 3 Use apple cider vinegar. This excellent product has many uses in the home. Among other things, it is excellent at destroying fruit flies. Pour some apple cider vinegar into the glass and place a plastic or paper funnel on top. It will block almost the entire exit, but leave the flies the opportunity to climb into the glass. Not too smart insects will no longer be able to get out. As an additional measure, add a drop of dish soap to the vinegar to create poison.
4. 4 Make a dishwashing liquid trap. Flies cannot spot a drop of dishwashing liquid in a sweet solution, but the chemicals in the product will give fruit flies no other chance than to poison themselves and die. Pour a mixture of vinegar (any) with sugar in an arbitrary proportion into the jar and add a few drops of dishwashing liquid. The flies will be attracted by the sweet and sour smell, but the chemicals will be poisonous to them.
5. 5 Make a beer trap. It turns out that beer flies are connoisseurs of alcohol in general, not just wine. Take a jar with a lid and pour half of any beer into it. Use a hammer and nail to make 3-5 holes in the metal lid. Screw on the lid and leave such a jar in the area with flies. Change your beer every couple of days to kill as many flies as possible.
6. 6 Use a bottle of soda. If you like carbonated drinks, then you are in luck. Just take a bottle of any beverage (cola works best) and poke a hole in the lid with a hammer and nail. Leave quite a bit of the drink at the bottom of the bottle. Screw the cap back on and watch the flies sneak in!
7. 7 Use used yeast. It may sound strange, but a yeast mixture will help you kill fruit flies. Pour in half a glass of warm water, add one teaspoon of sugar and some active dry yeast. Stir the mixture (bubbles should appear in it!) And cover the glass with plastic wrap. Use a toothpick to make small holes in the film so that the flies can get in but can't get out.
8. 8 Use Velcro. This is the least attractive trap, but sticky tape will do the trick for your fruit fly problem. The very sticky tapes attract flies and catch them as soon as they land on the tape with their paws. Place these ribbons in more suitable places than over the kitchen sink to get rid of flies.

Method 2 of 3: How to Avoid Flies

1. 1 Get rid of breeding areas that attract flies. As the name suggests, fruit flies flock to the fruit. They are also attracted to any dirty place and most rotting foods. Try to throw away the missing food right away, empty the trash can and rinse out the plums in time. This will reduce the likelihood of your home becoming a breeding ground for fruit flies.
2. 2 Destroy eggs. If you start to notice the presence of fruit flies, they have probably laid eggs by now.Typically, flies choose damp places, so often the sink in the kitchen, the sink in the bathroom and the shower drain become such places. Pour the bacteria killer directly into the drain to get rid of the fruit fly eggs. If you don't have a suitable product on hand, use bleach, although a liquid and pourable product may not stick to the eggs, which is necessary to kill the eggs.
3. 3 Grow fresh basil in your home. Surprisingly, fruit flies don't like basil. If you want to grow fresh herbs, choose basil to keep fruit flies out of your home. Start growing the basil in a pot and place it near the fly spots. For example, place a pot next to a fruit basket so that the problem doesn't bother you.
4. 4 Use cedar wood. Another unusual natural solution is cedar wood, the smell of which scares away fruit flies. You can use cedar at home as a decoration or for a fireplace to greatly reduce the number of flies. Place the chips in the kitchen and other fly breeding areas.
5. 5 Spray essential oil. Essential oil will help improve the smell in the house and scare off various insects. The scent of lemongrass and lavender oils repels not only fruit flies, but other beetles as well, causing them to leave the spray area. Add 10 drops of oil to 60 ml of hot water and spray around the room.

Method 3 of 3: How to Kill Flies Quickly

1. 1 Make a sticky fly swatter. Most people’s first reaction when they see fruit flies is to slap them. Alas, they are so small that it is incredibly difficult to kill them with an ordinary fly swatter. To solve the problem, make a homemade sticky fly swatter. Take a Styrofoam plate and lightly coat with cooking spray. When you spank small flies with a plate, they will end up in oil, stick to the plate, and eventually die.
2. 2 Use a hair dryer. If you want to get revenge on pesky flies, then arm yourself with a hair dryer! Turn on the hair dryer and unfold with the back side that sucks in air. The flies will begin to be sucked in, where they will burn from the heat of the heater. Yes, this is a bit harsh, but the problem will be solved very quickly.
3. 3 Burn incense sticks. The microscopic respiratory system of fruit flies is very delicate and requires a constant supply of clean air. This means that inhaled irritants like smoke will quickly kill the midges. You cannot make a fire in the house, but incense sticks can be used. Smoke and incense will be a slow death for the flies.
4. 4 Turn on the vacuum cleaner. Use a vacuum cleaner with a flexible bag (the stronger the suction, the more effective the solution will be). You will also need a wide nozzle.
   • Make a fruit trap. When the fruit flies fly off, slowly get down to business.
   • If flies have been sitting on fruit for some time, they will not fly away quickly, unlike the situation when they just sat down. Vacuum them up quickly and empty the bag outside.
   • It is important to remember that with a full bag, the suction power decreases and the vacuum cleaner will not be an effective solution at all.

Tips

• Fruit flies hatch from eggs in 8-10 days, so keep setting traps even after you kill the first generation of insects. This will eliminate future generations of flies.
