Winamp is an alternative media player that can be used in addition to conventional players equipped with their own operating systems. Winamp is very easy to use and has a well thought out interface for easy navigation. Multimedia files can be played either one at a time or in batches using playlists.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Getting Winamp

  1. 1 Download the Winamp installer. You can get the installer from www.winamp.com. Just select the platform your computer is running on (Windows or Mac) and download.
  2. 2 Install Winamp. Double click on the downloaded installer to start the installation process.
  3. 3 Start Winamp. Just double click on the program shortcut icon from the desktop.

Part 2 of 2: Create a playlist

  1. 1 Create a new playlist. Right click on “Playlist” in the library pane that is on the left side of the window. Select “New Playlist” from the submenu.
    • You can also create a playlist by clicking on the “Library” button at the bottom of the panel and choosing “New Playlist” from the pop-up menu.
  2. 2 Name your playlist. Enter a name for the playlist in the pop-up window.
    • Click on the “Okay” button to create a playlist.
  3. 3 Add media files to the playlist. Click on “Local Library” in the Menu bar, select the files you want to add, and drag the files from the local library to the playlist you created.
    • Another way to add media files is to click on the playlist you created and click on the “+” button at the bottom of the main view pane (centered). From the dropdown menu, select (if you want to add a file), an entire folder, or a URL (website address) to your playlist.
  4. 4 Play multimedia files. Double click on the created playlist to start playing media files from the playlist.

Tips

  • You can also add media files to the playlist that are not in your local library. Just drag and drop media files from anywhere on your computer to your playlist.
