Skype is a free video chat program, very convenient and simple. To use it, you need a Microsoft account, Facebook account or Skype account. Follow the steps in this article to make it very easy and simple to create a Skype account.

Steps

1. 1 Open the Skype home page. Click on the “Join Us” link in the right corner. You will be transferred to the “Create an account” page.
2. 2 Select your login method. When it comes to Skype, there are three options to choose from. You can create a new Facebook account, use an existing Microsoft account, or sign up for a Skype account.
   • If you are logging in with Microsoft or Facebook accounts, then you need to enter the details of the corresponding account to start using Skype. If you are creating a Skype account, then read on.
3. 3 Enter the required information. To create a Skype account, you need to enter your first and last name, email address (which will be hidden from view of other people), your country and language.
   • Additional information includes date of birth, gender, city and mobile phone number.
   • If you travel frequently, choose the country where you intend to use Skype most often.
4. 4 Indicate the purpose of using the program. You can choose between: mainly for work or for personal communication. This is an optional option.
5. 5 Come up with a username. Others will be able to see your name and use it to find you on Skype. You will not be able to change your name in the future, and if you don’t like it anymore, you will have to create a new account.
6. 6 Create a strong password. Since your Skype contacts will contain your friends and family members, as well as their details, it will be important for you to create a strong password for your account. If your password is too light, Skype will not allow you to use it.
7. 7 Select your Skype broadcast options. Skype offers newsletters for new products and special offers. By default, the checkboxes will be checked, but you can uncheck them (so as not to receive emails with offers) before proceeding with the registration process.
8. 8 Enter the captcha (verification code). Thus, you prove to Skype that the account is created by a living person, and not by an automated program. If you cannot read the code, click on the Refresh button to receive a new code, or click on the Listen button to listen to it.
9. 9 Read the terms of use and privacy policy. Make sure you agree with how Skype handles your personal information. If you agree, then click on the green button “I agree - Continue” on the page below.
10. 10 Download and use Skype. Once your account is created, you can download and start using Skype. You may see a page offering the purchase of "Skype Credit". You don't have to do this if you didn't intend to purchase it yourself. Skype credit is used for international and local calls to mobile and landline phones at low rates; calls to other Skype users are always free.

Tips

• It will be useful for you to understand the purpose of the buttons and icons in the Skype window at the bottom. If during a call one of these icons is crossed out with red lines, then the function of this button does not work. If your audio is not working, check the corresponding speaker icon on your computer (for red lines through it).
