If you're unsure of what to do with your growing collection of shot glasses, get creative and turn them into interesting candles. This is better than letting them gather dust in the closet, it will show off your collection and help create a pleasant atmosphere.

Steps

  1. 1 Break all your old, half-burnt candles into a measuring cup. You can use colorless wax if you have one.
  2. 2 Place a measuring cup in a pot of boiling water until the wax melts.
  3. 3 Watch when the wax is almost completely melted and you can add color to it.
  4. 4 Cut the wick to a length that matches the height of the shot glass.
  5. 5 Place the wick inside the glass. Make sure you only use glass shot glasses or any other thick glass. Apply a small drop of glue to the tip of the wick and press it down into the center of the glass to make sure the wick stays in place.
  6. 6 When the wax has melted, pour it over the shot glasses, but be careful not to flood the entire wick.
  7. 7 When the wax is almost completely set, move the wick to the center of the glass, and then leave it to solidify. As it cools, the wax shrinks, so you will need to add more wax.
  8. 8 Ready.

Tips

  • The thicker the glasses, the safer the candles.
  • Crayons are very good for coloring a candle, although they can extinguish it if you use too much of them.
  • Tie a wick around a toothpick. When you place a toothpick across the glass, the wick will hang down in the middle. Before lighting the candle, trim off everything except the 6mm wick.
  • Use different dyes or paints to create different shades. Use some green wax to shape the olive and insert a toothpick through it while it's melted. Add it to a martini glass filled with wax and let it solidify completely.
  • If you are going to recycle a candle for reuse, then recycle it into a similar type of product - from a wick - a wick (or thin wax candle), base to base, from a candle container - a candle container. Locking wicks are safe and can be found at any hobby or craft store (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, AC Moore, and so on).

Warnings

  • Be sure to use a heat-resistant container to melt the wax. Acrylic or hard plastic will deform.
  • The wax does not boil, it burns, so do not heat the wax above its melting point.
  • You have to use really hard and powerful glasses for this. Be very careful as some glass will crack from the heat and this can cause a fire.
  • If the candle burns out completely to the bottom of the glass or the flame touches its sides, the glass may crack.
  • Making a candle is a lot of fun, but you have to know what you are doing or it can be a dangerous gift.
  • Container candles are made from a softer wax than cylindrical or conical wax candles. The heat generated in a container candle like this can cause the glass to break, causing, at best, hot liquid wax to simply spill over the surface. In the worst case, this can lead to fire!
  • Do not use plastic glasses. They can melt.
