What do you need

1 Get everything you need ready. The pepper mixture can be made with home remedies. To do this, you will need the following main ingredients:

Cayenne pepper. Hot cayenne pepper can irritate the eyes. You don't need a lot of pepper: two tablespoons (30 grams) are enough for several cans.
92 percent alcohol and vegetable oil. Alcohol and oil will be needed to give the mixture a liquid consistency.

2 Pour pepper into a cup. Take a small cup and add two tablespoons (30 grams) of ground cayenne pepper. It is best to use a small glass cup to prepare the mixture.

Instead of ground pepper, you can take a whole pepper and grind it yourself.
Even if you want to use more pepper, it's best to start with two tablespoons. This way you can more easily learn how to make a pepper mixture of the desired concentration and consistency.

3 Pour the alcohol over the pepper. Alcohol is needed to give the pepper a liquid consistency. Pour technical alcohol into a cup of pepper so that it covers all the pepper. At the same time, stir the solution continuously and monitor its consistency.

4 Add vegetable oil to the solution. Add one tablespoon (15 milliliters) of oil for every two tablespoons (30 grams) of cayenne pepper in vegetable oil. Mix the solution well.

You can use baby oil instead of vegetable oil.

5 Add additional ingredients. As the name suggests, the active ingredient in the pepper solution is pepper. If you want a more caustic solution, replace the cayenne pepper with a hotter pepper. Plus, there's nothing stopping you from adding other ingredients to your homemade solution. For example, citrus fruits are also irritating to the eyes, so you can squeeze lemon juice into the solution to enhance the effect of the solution.

You can add soap to your homemade pepper solution, which can also irritate your eyes.
If you are going to add anything else to the pepper solution, you need to be sure that this ingredient does not cause permanent damage on contact with the eyes. Remember that pepper spray is a non-lethal form of self-defense.

6 Leave the prepared mixture overnight. Cover the cup with the solution with cellophane wrap and pull it around the edges of the cup with an elastic band. Leave the mixture at least overnight to infuse properly. Then remove the film.

7 Strain the pepper mixture. Take another cup and place a coffee filter or cheesecloth over it. Then gently strain the solution through a filter. This will remove solid particles from the mixture and leave one liquid.

Once you strain the solution, it will not clog the nozzle of your spray can.

8 If the solution accidentally spills on your face, wash your face immediately and rinse your eyes. The pepper solution is highly irritating to the eyes. If you have an eye wash device, prepare the solution near it. Be very careful when preparing the pepper solution.

Method 2 of 2: How to prepare a spray can

1 Stock up on everything you need.
- An empty deodorant can. Make sure that the can is tightly closed and has no holes. Rinse the can thoroughly before filling it with the pepper solution.
- Valve from the tire. Using the valve, you can increase the pressure in the can after you pour the pepper solution into it. This valve can be purchased from a hardware store or an auto parts store.
- Drill. With an electric drill, you can drill a hole in the bottom of the can. Try to find a 9mm drill bit.
- Epoxy adhesive. You will need a few grams of glue to seal the hole in the can.
- Syringe or funnel.
- Car pump. You will need a car pump to pump air through the valve from the tire and create high pressure in the can.
2 Drill a hole in the bottom of the can. Take a drill and drill a 9mm hole in the bottom of the can. Through this hole, you will pour the pepper mixture into the can and pump air into it. Hold the drill steady and try to keep the edges of the hole as straight as possible. This will make it easier to seal the hole with epoxy glue after pouring the pepper spray into the can.
- You can use a spray bottle instead of a spray can, then you do not have to drill a hole. In this case, care should be taken that the solution does not accidentally spill out of the bottle. When not in use, tape the cap and spray nozzle with tape.
3 Pour liquid into the can. It's time to fill the can with pepper solution. Take a syringe, fill it with pepper solution and inject it into the hole drilled in the can.Repeat until all of the mixture is poured into the can.
- A funnel can be used instead of a syringe.
4 Seal the hole with epoxy glue. You will need epoxy glue to close the hole in the bottom of the can. Take some epoxy glue and paint over the hole. Wipe off excess glue and wait a few minutes before moving on to the next step.
- Gloves are best when handling epoxy glue.
5 Fasten the valve from the tire in the hole. While the glue has not hardened, press the valve from the tire into the hole. Through this valve you can fill the can with compressed air. Once the epoxy is cured, it will not let air through the hole. Wait a few minutes for the glue to harden around the valve.
- Push the valve so that bOMost of it ended up inside the can. It must go right through the epoxy adhesive.
6 Paint the can. Some people prefer to paint objects that they have made with their own hands. This will make it easier for you to distinguish the pepper spray from the rest. This is necessary so that no one is misled by the old inscription on the pepper spray.
- Apply black spray paint to the can to make it less visible.
- Stick the appropriate label on the can. Indicate on the tag what is inside the can.
7 Pump air into the can. Put the pump hose on the valve and pump air into the can. When doing this, observe the pressure gauge on the pump. After inflating, the can will feel hard to the touch.
8 Spray with a spray can. Before you have to use the can for its intended purpose, practice splashing it at the target. Use a hard surface as the target. Aim the can nozzle away from you and gently push the button. Spray in small, short jets. If you have to use the can in self-defense, it is enough to temporarily disable the attacker.
- Most pepper sprays are effective up to three meters away.
- The pepper spray works for 45-60 minutes. The residual effect can be felt for up to three hours.
9 Store the can at room temperature. Pepper spray is a volatile substance. As with other pressurized cans, the pepper spray should be protected from excessively high or low temperatures. When not in use, store it at room temperature away from food and utensils.
- Keep the can out of the reach of others.

Tips

If it gets into the eyes, pepper spray causes swelling of the mucous membranes.
Pepper spray in commercial cans is at least 20 times more caustic than homemade pepper spray.

Warnings

When preparing the pepper mixture, never bring your hands to your eyes. The pepper solution is specially formulated to induce eye pain. Use protective goggles if possible.
Check if pepper sprays are legal in your country. These cans should be used solely for self-defense purposes.
