1 Determine what type of cement is most suitable for your construction. Portland cement type 1 is by far the most common and popular type (due to its composition and qualities), but other types of cement are also available with different characteristics (temperature sensitivity, etc.). Search online or shop to find the best type of cement for your job.

Over 92% of the Portland cement produced in the United States is of type 1, 2 or 3. Type 2 is more resistant to corrosion and type 3 is usually used for the best strength.

2 Purchase cement, sand and gravel (or crushed stone). You need to buy twice as much sand and three times as much gravel (crushed stone).

3 Prepare the necessary tools. These are bags of necessary materials and a wheelbarrow, because the resulting mixture will be very heavy and easier to mix and move with a wheelbarrow.

4 Open the bags of cement, gravel and sand that you will be using to mix. Using a small shovel, fill the wheelbarrow with 1 part cement, 2 parts sand and 3 parts rubble.

For example, one wheelbarrow should consist of two shovels of cement, four shovels of sand and 6 shovels of crushed stone. If you need more concrete, you can have 4 shovels of cement, 8 shovels of sand and 12 shovels of rubble.

5 Mix thoroughly until smooth. Even though they will be mixed again later, it is better and easier to do this now, as long as no water is added to the mixture.

Method 2 of 2: Adding water to the mixture

1 Add water slowly, you should have about 10 liters. Remember how much water you need to make the concrete mix easier the next time.
- If you decide to fill the wheelbarrow with water and then add the necessary components, mark the water level with a marker for convenience. This will make it easier to fill the wheelbarrow with water the next time you mix.
- A mixture that contains too much water will no longer be as strong as it should be. Therefore, you should not rely on your intuition and it is better to read the instructions of the cement manufacturer. Then you won't have any problems with the amount of water ..
2 For convenience, first mix ¾ of the dry mixture with water, it will seem quite liquid to you. If necessary, use a spatula to mix everything well.
3 Then add the remaining quarter to your existing liquid mixture. Mixing is a little harder now, but a small spatula can help. Stir until the concrete is homogeneous and thick enough.
4 As soon as the concrete mixture is made, immediately pour it into the required place (container).
5 The wheelbarrow and shovel must be cleaned immediately afterwards. Ideally, one person will clean the inventory and the other will work with the concrete (leveling, etc.).If this is not possible, then as soon as you have poured all the mixture from the wheelbarrow, fill it and the shovel with water. Then use a stiff brush to remove any remaining concrete from the wheelbarrow.
- Empty the wheelbarrow. It is best not to do this where the grass is (this will destroy the grass). You can dig a small hole, pour out the water, and bury it afterwards.

Tips

If your construction project requires more than 1 or 2 wheelbarrows of concrete, it is best to rent a portable concrete mixer so that each mix produces a concrete mix of the same consistency.
If your mixture looks odd, then more water may be needed. The most common problem is not enough water.
