Decomposition of a vector into perpendicular components helps with addition and subtraction of vectors. This article will show you how to decompose a vector into its components.
Steps
1 Determine the angle between the vector and either the X-axis or Y-axis.
2 Find the length of the vector (in appropriate units).
3 Find the components of the vector using the following formulas: Component1 = length * sin (yol) Component2 = length * cos (angle). The first formula gives the component opposite the corner, and the second gives the component adjacent to the corner.
