In the modern world, almost every home owner needs one or another type of air conditioning, often an air conditioner with an external condensing unit. This system is so compact, so energy efficient, and so affordable that most apartments on the primary market already come with pre-installed air conditioning. Although this system is small, it can be difficult to clean. What's more interesting is that the annual cleaning of the air conditioner by specialists can cost 25-35% of the cost of a new system. Therefore, rather than buying a new air conditioner or paying a huge amount of money, this article will give you tips and advice on how to clean your air conditioning system yourself.

Steps

  1. 1 Buy a fabric softener wash bag. You can buy them at specialized stores or online. They are specially designed to trap waste water when cleaning the air conditioner.
  2. 2 Buy a good air conditioner cleaner. Avoid foam cleaners because they create a lot of dirt and spray foam wherever you don't need it. In addition, the foam does not penetrate deep enough to clean the coils and fan blades. Therefore, it is better to opt for a liquid cleaner.
    • You should also not buy strong chemical cleaners that are made to attack organics. They can damage newer air conditioners. Newer air conditioners are often equipped with cooling coils covered with a blue hydrophilic layer (this facilitates the flow of condensate through the coils, which in turn increases the air flow).
  3. 3 Secure the bag around the air conditioner itself, which is on the wall. This way you don't have to shoot the entire block like the professionals do.
  4. 4 Start spraying chemical cleaner onto the coils. Try to spray at an angle so that the substance hits the cooling fins as well as directly onto the coils themselves. Try to get the cleaning agent as deep as possible into the coils. Helpful Hint - Place the sprayer as close to the cooling fins as possible.
  5. 5 Apply cleaner to the air blades. For best results, use a spray with the longest possible range, such as a garden spray. Be sure to apply the product to the entire surface of each blade.
  6. 6 Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the cleaning agent to do its job. Then rinse the coils and blades with regular water (spray bottle) and watch as all the dirt and bacteria that have settled in your air conditioner drip into the bag. Be aware that some of the water from the coils will flow out through the downpipe of the air conditioner.
  7. 7 Wipe down the air conditioner unit. Turn on the air conditioner and throw the bag over it a little - this will allow all the liquid to flow directly into the bag. Now remove the waste bag and discard the contents. Enjoy the result by watching how much dirt you have cleaned out.

Tips

  • Be careful when brushing the cooling paddles. They bend and break when excessive force is applied.
  • To avoid blockages in the drainpipe or to clean it - spray some cleaning agent into the drainpipe. Then rinse with water by pouring it into the tube from above. If you can reach the other end, use a washing vacuum cleaner to suck and clean the drainpipe. This should be done, especially if your air conditioner is leaking.
  • Use a strong spray bottle or toothbrush to propel the rotating blades and clean them all.
  • If you know how to remove the front cover of the air conditioner, then you will be able to clean the coils more thoroughly.
  • If your atomizer is strong enough, the pressure itself will cause the blades to spin if you aim the atomizer at the front lower third of the rotor.
  • Before starting work, you can remove the drain plug from the pan of your air conditioner, then all the dirt and water will drain directly into the bag, and not through the drain pipe. This will prevent a lot of dirt from getting into the drain pipe.
  • An old toothbrush will go a long way toward cleaning and scrubbing stubborn dirt and stains on coils and elsewhere, especially on the swivel air blades.

Warnings

  • Turn off the power supply of the indoor air conditioner and the compressor that is hanging outside.
  • Many detergents for cleaning the air conditioner require that they be left for a while after application, and the condensate formed during the operation of the air conditioner will wash off the agent. However, it is preferable to rinse off the remaining cleaner yourself, as you yourself will be able to remove a lot more dirt from the air conditioner elements. Also, leaving the chemical cleaner on the coils is contributing to the release of VOCs, which tend to harm the body's respiratory systems, even if they are organically natural products. Long-term exposure to these chemicals is not recommended.
  • Do not spray liquid on the right side near electrical components.
