Lentils are healthy, but you can make them even healthier by sprouting them. This is easy to do, creating a tasty end product, and they will be softer than those that ... increased gas production. Just start with step 1 below to germinate yourself.

Steps

  1. 1 Wash the lentils thoroughly. Place it in a sieve or colander with fine holes and rinse under running water. Remove all debris.
  2. 2 Place lentils in a large, clean jar. Fill the jar with warm water.
  3. 3 Cover the jar. Cover the jar with muslin or cheesecloth. Secure it in place with an elastic band or tie it tightly with twine. Of course, don't cover the jar with a hard lid.
  4. 4 Soak lentils. Leave the jar in a warm place overnight.
  5. 5 Drain the lentils. Drain off the water the next day. Leave the muslin lid in place as you drain (this will keep the lentils in the jar). Turn the jar upside down and drain well. The easiest way to do this is to pour the contents of the jar into a colander or similar cooking utensil.
  6. 6 Let the lentils sprout. After draining the water, turn the jar on its side and leave in a warm place. Keep it out of direct sunlight.
  7. 7 Rinse and drain regularly. Remove the lentils from the jar every day and rinse well. Remove the lentils that have not sprouted (started sprouting) and return the sprouts to the jar for further cultivation. They are usually ready in 2-3 days.
  8. 8 Enjoy! The sprouts are ready when they are the desired size. Use them in cooking, in salads, or just as a snack!
